The TAB-funkenwerk V-78M has been my "go to" kik drum mic pre for quite a while now... when coupled with the soon to be released "El Diablo" from Crowley and Tripp with a well tuned [he said while breaking his arm patting himself on the back] 22" kik drum the damn thing was really ready to break ribs while not taking up too much real estate in the final mix.

Being Gearslutz you're going to get 14,000 different recommendations... all of which are valid from that user's perspective.

I would seriously recommend you pick out half a dozen of these recommendations, try the various products next to each other and hear for yourself which of those products best suits your requirements and sense of aesthetic.

Peace.

512c w/ a vintage (melville) opamp

little less level overall, little more low end with the old opamps.

OR..

SPL track one for something cleaner/faster , Amazing metal kick with this pre.

Last time I used an M88 inside to a Focusrite Red 1 and a U47 into the Vipre on the outside.
It sounded enormous.

API is almost never a bad choice for drums. Pretty much my definition of punch is the 512. It just depends how slutty you want to get, I mean, the slut in me wants to say how much I love the Mercury Grand Pre on (any) drums, but if you dive into a lunchbox you've got some room for expansion later.
