GT Glory Comp - how versatile is it?

Anybody using that Glory Comp?
I´ve read a couple of reviews that were not too enthusiastic...is it worth the money?
I know that theoretically it CAN be really clean, it´s vari-mu and fully symmetrical.

How versatile is it? How good is the "Heaven - Earth" option for adding bottom end distortion?

I don't know, but everytime I read the ad it sounds like a lot of hype.

It's OK... no Atomic Squeezebox by any stretch of the imagination... takes up way too much rack real estate for what it does but what it does it does competently.

I have the Glory Comp and love it. I use it on all my tracking, for bass its fantastic
guitars and vocals I coud not live with out it.The heaven adds a bit of silk to guitars and vocals but have to back it off on the bass.

I pretty much a lurker, but post once in awhile when I see threads about the glory comp as not to many ever post about it. Not sure why it doesn't get more love here. Its great for tracking vocals, bass, etc. Nice set of ratios, built in sidechain eqs, and "heaven" allows for plenty of tweakn the sound. I often borrow a second one from a friends studio to do master buss duties as its more transparent then a Manley Vari-Mu thats also available to me.

Not when you're talking about a single channel Atomic Squeezebox. The stereo InnerTUBE unit is indeed double the price. Because it's got double the channels.

Still, the Groove Tubes compressor certainly works, and in more than a few cases, it works quite well. So do a lot of other compressors. You'd be in gamesville if you gave more than one unit a shot.

Also open up the glory comp and have a look what you are getting for your money,there is a lot of components in there.

Hm, I just had a flashback to the early 60s, when "transistor radios" were all the rage. Many proudly claimed "23 Transistors" and the like on the front of the radio, as more transistors undoubtedly meant higher quality. Of course, half of them had a lead cut and were being used as diodes.

So what you are suggesting that the glory comp is not what it is made out to be?

No, just free associating based on the previous post. I've never seen or heard a Glory Comp, to my knowledge.

Actually I've demoed one and ordered a pair. Yes it can be very clean, however it's colored (in a good sense). It has a hype, besides it's pushing midrange forward (around 2 kHz). Bass is VERY nice , I guess Fairchild-type. With Glory Comp Everything comes closer to the listener. Equalization/coloration settings are simmilar to those I'm usually using during the mastering, so for me - it's the good deal. Very powerfull comp.

"Earth" is the standard powerful mode but "Heaven" makes something weird with bass, like the signal were passed through the broken tube

. I don't like it, but maybe for certain instruments it would work.
