Some Advise Please: Voice Over Mic & Pre

I am looking at upgrading my VO mic and pre.
I am looking for a mic and pre combo that will do the job most of the time.

After reading a bunch of threads, in "High End" and "Post Production" i have narrowed the search down to the following...

Mic
Neumann U87
(hopefully a vintage one as it seems if you can get a good one they take eq better than the AI's, the u87 may not be the best but seems to be the most universal)

Pre
Vintech X73 (currently my favourite)
Great River MP-2NV
Mellenia HV-3C

I am based in Cape Town, South Africa so the problem is that you cannot demo any gear here, as the suppliers only order the units once purchased. So any info on this from people who have used this combination or single products would be great.

Most jobs are TV & Radio Commercials, Documentaries.

Thanks in advance

Stephen

Havent used the U87 for the job but have used an EV RE20 with the GR ME2NV with fantastic results.

you probably wouldn't regret either the EV RE20 or the Shure SM7B.
go for the Great River (my 2nd choice would be the Vintech, not too keen on the Millennia) as preamp.

when i worked in vo land a few years back we had excellent results using john hardy pres and 421's. we tried some condensers but found dynamics better suited for vo. plus, they're much less money.

good luck,
bill
