starting a studio in berlin

hello all,
i have decided to start a studio in Berlin, Germany. at the moment i am looking for a location, preferrably a finished studio space that i could take over. if anyone has any leads please let me know.

I would also be interested to be in touch with any other individuals who might be considering the same thing.

I plan to move to Berlin in about two years. Often I am back and forth as that is a huge place for my market in music. You should not have too much trouble finding a place and check ExBerliner for services and place. Its the english newspaper of Berlin.
Cost are very reasonable right now for property but changing fast. If I do a studio it might be more personal home semi studio. But I do have plans long term of setting up a proper one for mixdowns for electronic artists.

Ya man I love that place. First time I went I thought I would hate it and it hit every right not for me. Great bike lanes, autobaun, good beer, great transit, great food, and sooo much support for the arts. Of course when I have played there crowds are just awesome.

I'm seriously considering to move to Berlin too.....
How far along are you with setting up your studio ?

i'm in Holland, got a van so I could just drive half of my studio over if need be.
will take me about a day This prospect is getting more interesting every day....

maybe you have to look for old broadcasting places like the rundfunkhaus in the nepalastraße near wuhlheide....what about budget and aims...which direction....producer, mixdown, mastering or tracking studio?

good luck...enjoy it

berlin is great ! I went for the first time last year and loved it. Would love to work there ! Though Canada is pretty stable place to work in.

Good luck with the venture.

Well, depends what your priorities are - it's got an awful lot to recommend it, and compared to some of the 'great' cities of the world, the quality of life is head and shoulders above...

Actually scrub that - anyone thinking of moving here, particularly from the UK or USA: don't. It's a dump, an unfriendly shithole and dangerous to boot.

No, really - don't come. You won't like it

(I mean, have you heard German hiphop? )

Is just that people have to remember this city is still really poor, sure there are some rich ones around but generally speaking, people don't have a lot of money to throw around. This in turn affects businesses because there is simply less money in the local economy.

While being a beautiful city with a great vibe is all very well, if you can't afford a simple "Döner" life is still going to suck. Lately with the economy how it is, I've really seen Berlin change a little too, for the worse unfortunately.

Dammit, here I am looking at posts about Berlin.
Moving there to be with my lady isn't out of the question now.
I'd certainly have my gear shipped over to start making things happen, if someone wanted to join forces or something. I can bring nice things to the table..

Berlin is actually crowded with studios. There must be around a thousand, if you count all the bedrooms. We're south of Berlin, in a small village with a lake and lots of trees, yet Berlin is our main market. And it's tough. Right now, there is simply not a lot of money on the loose. Lots of musicians, sure, but also quite a few big commercial studios.
Property is cheap, yes, but building code requirements are high. So the grass isn't greener here than elsewhere. But it's a great city.

Berlin absolutely rocks, but hearing what comes out of some of the small studios there the quality of work is very high- even from the bedroom producers. I imagine the competition would be tough.

The food is definitely better than here in Finland. I dunno about the high class restaurants but pizza and street food is WAY better than here. The best pizza I've ever tasted came from a small street vendor in Kreuzberg.

Finland probably has the worst food culture in the world so that ain't much of a comparison...

Recording studio / practice space

Hi,

I am thinking of moving to Berlin and wondering if any of you guys had success finding space to rehearse and record.. and if so which areas or types of property might be the best for a home project studio (potentially with drums!)

I have heard Germans are notorious for complaints about noise so even more important consideration than usual,,

there are several search engines which help you, and sometimes gearslut members have a tip, too.
a space within the city playing and recording 24hrs a day drums is easier to find if you want to go a bit in the outer areas...
but there are several studios around my place where you can do it and i live in the middle.

i would say there is still plenty of space standing empty. its only a bit crowded in the hip parts of town.
