Question Prism ADA-8XR... how user friendly?

Easy to use or tough to navigate?

Set-up, basic operations, then rounting it's own converters out to hardware and back to an AES or DSD out... which I think it can do, that kind of stuff.

Then Pro Tool HD integration? Easy? Seamless? Otherwise?

Thanks to anyone with some good insight and working experience.

It can be a lot more complicated than for instance Lavry.
That being said, the tech support will talk you through any problem you have. I am talking very qualified tech support 24/7.

I make sure any setup is tried and tested before you do a real session.
Save whatever setting you have as a preset and you are always good to go in sessions.

Protools integration is no problem.

Good luck with the Prism, it is a fine unit indeed.

Do you mean DA out to analoque harware then back in through the AD with AES or DSD output?

If so, then yes, no problem.

Yes, it's an incredibly flexible and high-quality converter. However, as I'm sure you aware, all of the routing configurations are menu activated and, IMO, finding exactly what you need in the menus is not immediately intuitive, at least as you're familiarizing yourself with the unit's operation. Routing wise, it will do almost anything you could ask, but the first time around it might take some time to locate just what you want in the menus. But with a little use, it's all pretty straightforward. Service is first rate.

The one thing I find lacking is sample rate conversion capability independent of the DSD card. There is space internally for a permanent signal processing card with such function but as it stands one needs to use one of the two DIO slots for a DSD card simply to get sample rate conversion capability. I chose AES and FW cards so I go elsewhere for SR conversion.
