Is there a "gluey" AND "snappy" compressor?

Just wondered about this. I can only afford 1 higher end compressor & I need some versatility.

I've been listening here & in the chat room, but haven't picked up on a product that does both & does it well.

In my "minds ear" I imagine a nevey type clone pre with a compressor that can glue and snap. I'll post a full thread on my plans & applications, but I'm curious bout this compressor thing at this point.
Thanks in advance.
Eric

FWIW, snappy is exactly how I have been describing my newest toy, the Pendulum OCL-2. It glues as well. Fun box.

Though Mindprint gets dissed a lot, the T-comp is a very cool unit. I'm not sure that it's snappy and gluey, but it's versitile. I love it on BD and SD. Guitar sub while mixing can be cool too. I've even used on the 2-mix for hip-hop with good results.

Little doodler ---- I thought the distressor was being used more for rock & heavier pop than anything. But I'll look into it-thanks.

Drumsound --- I'm looking on the high end side of compressors. I'm not sure how high end the mindprint is. The price looked rather inexpensive, and the fact that people are saying bad things about mindprint cannot be good.

Any other takers?

It really depends what instruments/vocals/sounds you are trying to make gluey and snappy. That said, the first thing that comes to my mind is an 1176.

I will definitely second the vote on the GML 8900. The best compressor I have used.

I like the GML too... but i dont really think it fits into the 'Gluey and snappy' catagory!... it dont have much flavour and is pretty damn invisibly as far as comps go. A colour piece it definately aint!

YMMV

I might have misunderstood what was meant by "gluey and snappy".
