well i'm waiting for my qes labs hpba-2 and i'm also planning
to buy a recabled pair of senn hd 800.I think that this combo
will become as you said the non plus ultra dedicated monitoring system
through headphones.

I use the closed BD 770. I like them well enough but they seem to only last a year before they short out which is LAME!

+1 on the BD 770. They are great for mixing, but for tracking they might be bit on the quiet side. Have had mine more than a year and no problems yet!
