SSL X-rack problems

The master modules level meters don't light up at all for one, two the monitor section of the master module isn't doing anything. Is there something I'm not seeing, or is the master module broke? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

How old is your X rack? If it's one of the very first then they were brought out before the summing solutions existed and may need modifying to work correctly. Call your local SSL office with the tested by date and they'll let you know.

The serial number is newer, so I believe that's not the problem, it actually out of the blue just kicked in and started working, very strange!!! I think I might try to exchange for a new one anyway. The meters on the main module seem a little bunk, even when there's is just a low signal the whole meter glows a little, is that right?

Not entirely true. The first 100 XRacks could not send phantom power to mic pres and did not have a mix bus cascade. However, they will happily work with the summing units if they have the correct software.

Do you have signal routed into the mix bus? When you say "not doinhg anything" what exactly do you mean - more info would be good.

You could always get in touch with our support team direct at

It seems to be working properly now, it just all of sudden last night kicked in, before none of the buttons in the monitor section lit up, the master meter didn't light up, the dim and cut weren't working, but know it all seems to be working. I'm wondering if I should still get it replaced, don't know if I'll have future problems with it.

Let us know if there are any further problems.

Do you have the right software loaded? It should be 1.23 - see the below.
A bug has been identified in software version 1.2.3 which initially can cause the master module not to function.

The following steps correct this bug, this action will only be required once for each Xrack unit.

Press and hold the setup button until SE in displayed.
Rotate the rotary switch until rE is displayed.
Press the rotary switch in to enter the remote menu.
Select OF and press the rotary switch in again. This is important, even if the display shows OF when entering the remote menu you will need to save the selection by pressing the rotary switch in. Do not exit by pressing the setup button.
Power cycle the unit.

This is listed on our FAQ site.
