Hi Casey, really great reverb! Nice job.

Is there any upgrade available already? I bought M7 just recently.

Great, another reason to hate Logic's Space Designer even more.
It's the only decent reverb I have and yet just never satisfied with it, despite the numerous presets to get you in 'the ballpark'. All this Bricasti talk is making me weak in the knees....I WANT ONE!

I want... TWO!!

Haven't listened to it yet but all the talk has made me like a kid before x-mas. Natural ambience and reverb is important for me and my music taste.
From what I've heard it sounds like the thing for me. Little worried about the fan though but I'll try to demo a unit this week.

I make electronic music, heavy moog basses and the like, and the only natural thing that I have in studio is ... voice... LOL. For reverbs I use Eventide H-8000FW and TC Electronic M-3000 (and occassionaly some ITB reverbs) and I wonder how the M7 compares against these two units?

Please tell me that I don't need one...

There's 2 threads going on, but I was kinda answering the same question...so:

It took about 5 seconds for me to be sold on the Bricasti. It has incredible realism, but also a niceness about it. To my ear, it's a bit less lushy and gooey than the best Lex verbs, but it has an increased realism. It also sets the source audio into the verb better than any other. I have not heard a plugin with this kind of depth. For fun, I even made a couple of M7 impulses a tried them in Altiverb... it lost the amazing Bricasti character. It was about equivalent of Q-Cloning a Pultec vs the real deal.

"How big a difference will it make?" That really depends. If you're the type of guy who only splashes some verb on a tambo, then it's not gonna make that big a difference. I think most people avoid using verb because it starts to sound fake. This is where the M7 shines above all else. You can use less verb than other boxes, but because of it's depth and density, it will grab on to your audio and sound more realistic, as if it were recorded in a nice room/hall/etc.

Casey, I love my M7; it's the best reverb I've ever had (by far). However, I tried listening to music through it like you suggested - I had a hard time maintaining bass guitar detail though. It became kind of indistinct and blurry, turning the bottom end to mush. Am I doing something wrong?

I am thinking yes, for this application.

Here is what I do,

Start with studio B close,

Then turn the early/reverb mix to all early (no reverb)

Set the early select to something like 3,4,5

Maybe adjust VLF up or down within about 6dB

Turn the modulation off

OPTIONALLY, bring the reverb up on the early/reverb mix one or two steps

This should be very tight, with some space and air

Also turn the reverb time down to 200 to 300 MSECs

Bricasti M7 Electronica Clips

There's been some nice clips of guitars, cellos, strings, etc with M7, but the electronica thing keeps coming up, and I haven't noticed any electronica examples. So forgive me, I'm not an electronica artist, but I threw something together as an example of how the M7 can work inside an electronica track.

I posted a 100% dry, then wet examples. Also there's a couple solo bass patches at the end, so you can hear a little more clearly exactly what the verb is doing.

Casey hip'd me to the Bass XXL patch, which is very cool. To my ear, it speaks more in the low register, and keep all the top line stuff clear. It kinda gives off an nice feeling of loudness to me, like you've re-amped your kicks in a club, and brought it back in parallel. I printed Bass XXL twice, 1x is subtle usage, then 2x is a lot of verb.

I also printed a pass with Studio B Close, which generally is one of my favorites for anything, and Clear Hall just for fun.

The "studio B" setting sounds to me like what the track needed. More than a reverb, just sounds like everything is bigger.

Agreed. That patch is a particular master-work. It's one of my 4 "quick-key" presets.

btw, I've found my M7 runs pretty hot ; the other day, after a few hours running I kept hearing some kind of relay switching on and off inside the M7 ; I don't know if it was the fan speed relay, because there was no noise from the fan (but it can see it spinning fast) ; I must say the M7 was installed in a full small rack (as many other M7 seen on pictures over the web). I have pulled the Bricasti from the rack and outside it does not "click" but I have noticed the bottom of the unit gets really hot (a bit like the Aurora 16 converter) so maybe I will leave 1U space over and under it to keep it cool ; any other idea ?

Those relays clicking are in the analog section. It is an indication that the voltage is not set properly for your location. PM me so we can get this sorted for you.

M7

I did a bit of research on the M7 and it says the unit has DUAL D/A. Can I really get a super high end (for me) reverb plugin AND A D/A to monitor, playback, that help get me great sounds all in one expensive package? I've been in the market to purchase a good D/A to help for the above reasons and for more obvious reasons why a good D/A is important.
If I have a Digidesign MBOX2 how would I connect something like the M7? Wholy hellfire! The M7 is an external unit (didn't know that), and it's like $3700! For a damn reverb? Wow. Don't know what to say other than myabe someday I will have clients and can make money and buy gear like this.

M7 doesn't work as AD/DA converter. If you feed with analoge, you get analoge out, if you feed with digital you get digital out. Sad, because it has top notch parts.

How warm is "too warm"? Does he mean unbearably warm, as in july-august? :-)
