High End Gear / Location / Gearslutz

First of all i would not have most of my high end gear if it was not for Gearslutz.com, i love this site for the powerful input about gear that it has, you get to take everyones opinion and add it up and make your own decision.

Location : thats another issue, if i want to look at some Neve, SSL, UA, etc i have to travel to Atlanta Ga, thats 2 1/2 hrs away from me which is not that bad cause i love the big peach. GC is really the only place that i can look at the gear thats near me, yes i have one less than 20 min away from me but its a low end GC, not big like Atlanta, Hollywood etc. Atlanta has 3 stores by the way. We still cannot see/listen to gear like Great River, API, A-Designs, Chandler, Fearn, Smart, etc which is a shame.
And the last thing i want to hear from a dealer is "Why dont you try it out " and if you do not like it just return it for a refund. That sounds great indeed, BUT so happens you don't dig the gear that you bought and need to do just that, first of all you feel like a idot having to return it, second the salesman are not always happy about this issue cause they lose money. I just wish that GC would handle more high end products, GC biggest push is Avalon.

Yeah... I've heard that about Mercenary... I think they even went into detail about it on their policies page.

I was prepared to do that with my monitors, but I liked them and kept them.
Let me counter my comments on this, i don't mind paying ALL shipping fees at all, its the pissed off salesman and the bad taste that you leave with them that bothers me.
I have not had to return anything lately and maybe because i have not bought anything either. Again these salesman get pissed off, they are so happy with a smile from ear to ear to get you to buy it and try it out, even tho you might not feel 100 percent about taking it at the that time, you are still in a thinking stage.

I think it woudl be great to have a demo sample at the store at least using the same person, same mic and different preamps, compressors etc.

The next time you take the trip down 85, you might stop in at Atlanta Pro Audio, which is on the southbound service road opposite GC on the northbound side. Won't make the drive any shorter, but you'll find more of what you're looking for...
