ATR Magnetics tape - when?

Isn't it long overdue? There were announcements made a long time ago and I haven't heard anything since...

Any one can tell when it will ship? I'm looking for 1/2" tape for my Studer A820. Maybe I should get some RMGI SM 900? Used GP9 before...

Curious as well. I'll be looking to purchase a few reels of 2" in about a month.

ATR tape

I spoke with ATR about this a couple months ago. They are nearing release. The first release will be 2", followed by 1",1/2"... So there is still some time to wait.
I testing a new reel of RMG 900 today on my ATR-102 1/2". The first Reel I bought had problems with shedding and leaving deposits on the heads. In the mean time, I used some EMTEC 900, which performed and sounded awesome- better than GP9 or 499.
I contacted RMG and they quickly replaced the reels, sending me new tape cakes, claiming that I had received an older bad batch.
Hopefully the new RMGI is just like this stuff the emtec.

You should email RMGI in Europe, and find the best place to buy a good new batch. SET up according to their specs and try it. Later you can try a reel of the ATR stuff when it is available. Chasing down a steady supply of quantegy may be a challenge, and i would avoid the sound of GP9.

You shouldn't have any problems at all with the SM900 on your Studer. They were practically made for each other. I always preferred the SM900 over GP9, especially the GP9 that was made in the last three years or so. I don't care what anyone says, the GP9 changed and was suspiciously 456 sounding. Either that or both me and my decks are losing it.

RMGI sm 900

I used the new reel of 1/2" RMG SM900 and it performed flawlessly and sounds great. Go for it.
