Pre Amp Choice and Vocal Chain.

Hi all

Im a writer and currently use an ISA430 Focusrite Producer Pack along with a Neumann U87 as well as an MXLV69. Both give me great sounds. The ISA has a pre/comp/limiter all in one so its helped me get a good sound so far.

I have just moved to the US from Australia and am noticing a difference in pre-amp choices based on availability and sound.

They type of music i do is about 70/30 female/male voice. Style is Soul/RnB/ through to Norah J/Mario/MJ/R-Kelley and extreme would be say an Alanis style.

What Im looking for is to get Peluso (2247LE, 251, P12) mic and maybe one of the preamps: Brent Averill 1272/Demeter VTMP-2C(A?? B?? or original 2)/Focusrite Red/Vintech. I could use the ISA430 Compressor for now, unless you care to recommend a compressor as well.

Also I want to use the pre i purchase to route my keys through into the computer, acoustic guitars, as well as some Line6 Pod based guitars so it needs to be a dual pre.

I would appreciate some feedback and thoughts, even if its something totally different to what im thinking about.

The most important thing here is that my budget for the MIcrophone is around 1500, Pre around 2k, Compressor around 1500.

Thanks very much
Rgds

My 87i sounds great thru the STT-1 Origin, especially on female vocals for some reason, but that's not to say it isn't equally as good on male vox. It's quite a swiss army knife, capable of several different sounds.

With your pre/compressor budget, you could cover both within your budget and get a very good EQ thrown in for good measure.

The 87 sounds great through Chandler gear...the TG2 and Germ are both stellar with that mic ...
