second hand ssl, what do you think?

Hi folks
Someone offererd me his old SSL 4064 G+ Total recall for 120'000$ and I know this desk is in a very bad shape and a huge amount of maintenance is needed. I think the guy is selling it because he dont have the money to get it fixed. what do you think of the price? I think It's way too much considering the console is nearly dead.
I could be interested but only at a fair price. Has anyone of you ever bought a second hand ssl and could you share your experiences...

ps have you ever worked on an old trident serie 16 and what do you think of that console, especialy th preamps

thanks

Hmmm.. sounds a bit rich. We picked up a 4056G (TR but no ultimation) in *mint* condition for about US$70k 18 months ago, and i'm sure they've come down since then.

It all depends on what you call huge.

You can calculate the value of a desk by finding out what a G+ is worth in PERFECT condition. Then find out what it would cost to bring that G+ into perfect condition (recap, reprint strips, bug-fix motherboards, rework PSUs etc etc etc).

As it stands, that is about the price for a 60-frame J series in good condition. $180,000 will get you a good 80-frame J that has been fully serviced and has the 5.1 option installed.

A really good G+ could cost $120,000 or more, but manky? Less than half that!
