Thread Starter | Are These TDM Plugs Worth It
If you could buy all of these HD Plugin's for 1400.00 would you do it. How many of these are not good? Basically I'm looking at an HD system and the price is about 1400.00 over the typical going used price of the core system. i would NOT pay $1400 extra. the plugins i listed above are the ones out of your list that i actually like. the rest i would not use probably ever, but that's just me perhaps. out of the ones i listed that i said i like, only Hybrid and Smack! do i really find useful. TL EveryPhase is fun sometimes but there are other plugins that do what it does imo better. jmho. ~j.d.

The only plug I HAVE to have out of all those is REvibe. I also like smack, but now with the $79 dollar Massey compressor CT4, I'm using smack much less. So those two are the only ones I really like out of your whole bunch. The moogerfooger stuff is cool, but it's specialty stuff. I'll use it once in a while. |

They usually come free with an HD3 system. They shouldn't charge you extra. Check digi's site. Is this an HD3 system by the way? Still it's not worth $1400. They should be included.

demo as many of them as you can from the Digi site. i don't think many of them will impress you too much if you have experience with really quality plugins (if that is not an oxymoron). i could not for the life of me see using any of those plugins that i didn't list in my quote on ANY track, save what drBill said about the MoogerFooger stuff being specialty and once-in-a-while useful. ~j.d. |

There are several used HD1 PCIe Accel systems out there for around 4k. A reputable dealer, dutchmusik, has an HD1 for 5400 with the plugs above. I plan to buy an HD1 and then buy another Acell card right away, which seems to be going for around 1500. I would by and used HD2 PCIe if there was one out there. The only one I've seen is 6999.00 with these plugs. Are they worth 1500.00? | not imo the AVOX plugins are so bad i wouldn't use them if someone paid me extra to do so. i couldn't ever find a single viable use for them. Quote:
i can say that dutchmuzik is indeed a reputable dealer and a trustworthy one. you will get a fair price from him. if you don't want the plugins you could always try and sell them to someone who does... cheers. ~j.d. | |

I would hardly pay $14 for that lot of Bomb Factory stuff. I also think the Moogerfooger plugins are extremely wack. |

OCCATIONALLY USE: Line 6 Amp Farm 3 Bomb Factory Sansamp PSA-1 Bomb Factory -Tel-Ray (Specialty delay - cool sometimes) USED TO USE: Digidesign - Maxim (now the $100 Massey 2007 SMOKES it.) THIS IS REALLY NICE IF YOU NEED IT: Access Virus Indigo USEABLE BUT RARELY USE: Focusrite D2/D3 Bomb Factory -MoogerFooger Lowpass Filter Bomb Factory -MoogerFooger Analog Delay Bomb Factory -MoogerFooger 12-Stage Phaser Bomb Factory -Purple Audio MC77 EH??? I COULD CARE LESS: Bomb Factory Pultec EQP-1A Bomb Factory Pultec MEQ-5 Bomb Factory Pultec EQH-2 Digidesign - Reverb One Digidesign - Impact Eventide H3000 Band Delays Eventide Ultra Channel Bomb Factory BF-3A Princeton Digital — Plate Reverb Princeton Digital — Space Station SST-282 Digidesign - Synchronic Cosmonaut Voice Digidesign - D-FI JoeMeek SC2 Compressor JoeMeek VC5 Meequalizer Bomb Factory -MoogerFooger Ring Modulator Bomb Factory -Voce Spin Bomb Factory -Voce Chorus Digidesign - Bruno Reso NOT FAMILIAR WITH Antares Avox Punch Antares Avox Choir Trillium Lane Labs — TL Aggro™ Trillium Lane Labs — TL EveryPhase™ Trillium Lane Labs — TL Metro™ Trillium Lane Labs — TL Tune™ Trillium Lane Labs — TL Mastermeter™ Although it had less plug-ins, I think the other package was better. bp |

Of all the plugs in both lists the only ones I think are even ok are: Smack Impact TL Aggro (not that I use them much, but for plugins they are ok) Virus Indigo (I agree that it's great if it's something you need) the Eventide stuff (cool) Princeton- ok but price those plugs out by themselves. They go for cheap. I haven't used Hybrid or Synchronic however. dfegad Bombfactory $1400 extra? I dunno. For compression and EQ you could get away with Massey (inexpensive) and the free Digirack ones and be all right to start off with, and also get the MDW and URS if you can. I don't think you'll be missing out on too much by not having TL Aggro, Impact and Smack. Smack covers similar territory to TL Aggro anyway, you'd probably do fine with just one. Softsynths- hmm depends if you need them. Verb? Best look for different ones than on that list except for the Princetons but they go for cheap. FX- well, the Eventide stuff rocks, but just Band Delays? Better if you bought them singly So, not worth it imho. |

no, look on ebay you can get smack for about 60.00 you can get revibe for under 100.00 indigo smokes hybrid (only 200 presets, come on digi) and is tdm, I believe that indigo is the best soft synth ever of course YMMV, around 100.00 on ebay (about 10,000 presets, maybe more) I have not heard everything on your list, but the above are good plugs bombflunkery is NOT dabomb there are alot of threads about the best plugs for a hd system it would be to your advantage to search those out tl stuff is good but there are others out there, like the massey stuff others have told you, I just wanted to point out the ebay thing revibe is a very, very good reverb by the way

That's about 50 dollars a plugin not bad. You will need plugins and if not these then others will cost probably more. It all depends on your needs. If your budget is only for an HD1 then paying out more money for plugins might not be an option. These are all usable. Revibe is actually very good. Todd

To put it this way, Bomb Factory didn't age like a fine whine. For $1400 I'd get something else, you can get cheaper AND better plug-ins if you go with Massey, but I'd probably pick another bundle on top of that or a few selected top plug-ins I'd feel I use much.

wow, i guess i'm the only one who makes use of that moogerfooger phaser on a regular basis. i usually throw it on a mult somewhere when i need some subtle movement. otoh, i've never found a use for the Slightly Rude Compressor, which i like to call the Slightly Useless Compressor.

I've tried the RTAS versions of just about all of those (where available), and the only ones that are really worth paying for IMVHO are Hybrid, Smack, TL Aggro (tube drive mode notwithstanding), d2/d3, Moogerfooger Analog Delay (I love it on guitars), and I also like the 'all buttons in' sound on the MC77 (but have never used it 'normally').

Right now, DAW prices are sinking like rocks. If you think old desks are going cheap, that is as nothing compared to what is happening to DAWs, PT included. I have never paid for plugs. If the vendor does not bundle them in to sweeten the deal, then there is always one who will. Insist on Autotune and a good limiter. They may not be able to bundle the latest version, but then they will always have an old license for an older version available.

Be very cautious about buying super low priced plugs on Ebay, with a promise of iLOK license transfer. You may get the plug ,and the iLOk transfer, but you won't get a serial number. When a major upgrade is offered, you will be hosed, as you would have been with Soundtoys V3, which ASKS FOR YOUR SERIAL NO. You don't get a serial number with some of these 'great deals" out there... TH |
