Wunder CM7, Telefunken U47M or Wagner U47W? Anyone?

So I have been contimplating on which version of this Mic I want. The only one I have physically seen or heard was the Wagner U47w and it is pretty damn nice. I have quite a few mics and have always wanted a U47 in some fashion. I am days away from pulling the trigger on something and would love to hear any feedback from the fellow slutz who own anyone of these, or have heard a couple and can compare them. Any details would be helpful. Thanks Guys, I appreciate it. Cheers

Seems like the Wunder and the Wagner get all the love here...I never see any mention of the Tele. I just bought the CM7-GT, so I'm hoping that's going to be a step up for me...

Got a Wunder and 3 original 47s.they're all different in a good way.
the Wunder hold's up beautifully.amazing silky and open hi's.
the Wagner is cool too,if your down for waiting 6 months to a year to get one.
The Telefunken didn't rate with me..the one I tried sounded too dark for my taste.
I got the Wunder on ebay[from a fellow GS'r] for cheap..couldn't pass it up.worth every cent.Your in LA ..Maybe you can hustle up a wunder/neumann demo.
not using mine this week,if you wanna try it

Where did you get the CM7-GT from? (And have you had a chance to try it out yet - what do you think)?

I know Vintage King sells the Wunders in the U.S. but I'm in the U.K. and I don't know who sells them here...anyone?

I don't think the GT comes out until later this month, but I do see it advertised for pre-order on Atlas pro audio.

I have had the good fortune to hear both microphones. The CM7 is superb microphone, but it does seem to be a tad brighter than any 47 I have heard. That certainly may be due to the inevitable aging of the original 47s I have heard. This takes nothing away from the CM7, and it is certainly a world class tool. However, if you're looking for the truest emulation of a U47, IMHO you can't beat the Wagner. It's really a game of inches, but I hear a smoothness and presence in the Wagner that the Wunder is just slightly lacking. The wait list is long, but if you can afford the wait (and the cost) the Wagner is the winner in a very close race.

The wait list isn't just long for the Wagner, it's ********. I think it's like 6 months to a year.

In fact, this thread just made me search my emails to find my last correspondance with Wagner Microphones. We exchanged several emails back and forth and he mentioned I would be absolutely added to the wait list and be notified when my turn had come up to put a deposit on the mic and be ready to receive it.

THAT WAS ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK! So whatever. The term 'vaporware' comes to mind almost. I mean, yes there's a handful of people in the world the actually have a Wagner 47, but you're simply never ever going to get the thing.

At least the Wunder is obtainable on a reasonable timescale, and with the GT coming out there's much to be excited about. Having heard the CM7 in person at my studio, I can say as others have said that it is a great mic. I think it's really pushing it at that price point, but Mike did explain the many reasons why it costs that much, and why the GT will basically be real close for alot less money. So Mike at Wunder, whenever the GT is ready come on back and lets hear em again!

Short body, matt top, K47 Capsule.
So far everyone loves it.

I had a couple folks write to me about this thread. Seems like the Wagner mics still are getting made and shipping, but the wait is indeed still a year plus. Someone just got one after waiting well over a year, but is very happy with the sound.

Just as an FYI, Dave Pearlman has a new microphone coming out called the Church mic, based on the custom designs produced by Stanley Church, chief sound engineer for MGM in the 1950's. The Pearlman Church mic uses this schematic and parts list with an original K47 capsule and Triad tranny.

Parts are in limited supply for these mics too, but at the moment as it still an unknown Dave has enough parts to make at least a few. I can see the waiting list forming on this one as well.

i recently used a tele usa long body. there were "old" 47s in the studio, too. the telefunken usa mic kind of brought it on a daily basis. we used it on 9/10 vocals.

I bought 1st Wagner from bankrupt studio owner for same price as it is today (around 6800 USD+shipping).
Gunter Wagner was always very concrete in production period estimation (he didn't take any orders until he was sure that he can deliver). I would say typical German in good sense.
He informed promptly about production flow and exactly on time mic was finished.
After payment in 5 days FEDEX informed that mic arrived.
I know 5-6 owners and all of them have much better studios then me. I never heard anything less than excellent opinions from singers, producers and engineers who worked with this mic. Simply amazing, pure U47 sound.
Actually it is newly made U47 that is sonically on par with original in the best condition. I think that around hundred mics were produced and it is finite number that might be produced in the future.
He puts lot of efforts to final testing, burning, calibrating, so what one get is nothing less than state of the art.
IMO it's absolutely not overpriced when compared to all other best mics on the market and I would easily order 3rd if gears wish list would not be sooo looong

It's good to finally get a little bit of feedback on the Tele USA 47 (other than magazine articles). Was it a VF14 or EF14 model?

May I bring another mic into the equation - how does the Horsh compare to the Wonder? (especially the newer GM version which is more similarily priced.)

Part of me just thinks I'll get 90% of what I'm after from a good old SM7b -am I crazy?

Innertube Audio 87 Mod/Mag Mic

We have had a U87ai with a tube mod by Innertube Audio (Atomic Squeezebox makers) for more than a year and I have A/B'd it with a stock 87, Old Telefunken 47, Old Nuvistor 47, Gefell, etc....and in all cases it was as good as the next best- most cases it was better....and was chosen by the singer. New they are ~$3500- which is a lot less than a used 47 or most other new comparable mics-

They also shine on acoustic instruments and pretty much anything else we have tried them on. Truly astonishingly good. The mod was only ~$1500.00 for our U87ai. Here's the link if anyone is interested:

InnerTube Audio Tube Retrofit for the U87

Here is for the Mag Light mic- same guts- different body-

The InnerTube Audio MM2000 MagMic

No, I don't work for Innertube- just a really happy customer- and Stayne is a great guy to do business with too. I think the main reason they aren't better known is they don't advertise much and it is mainly seemingly word of mouth.

Wunder

Just took delivery on my CM-7 with the M7 capsule, and look forward to putting it up next to my vintage Tele U47 chrome top and see how it rates.
The mic now comes with a shockmount instead of the original vintage type boom connector which kinda disappointed me, but I would image this is providing better shock resistance.
We'll see!

I demoed the Wunder and Telefunken and I liked the Wunder way better. The Tele was to dark and dull for me. I emailed Wagner a couple of times with no response and finally got an email back about a month after I took delivery of my CM7. The CM7 is stunning!

I was with you on the disappointment, but you're right about the reason. The shockmount provides shock resistance, while the older style provided NONE! It did look cool, though. But, heck, we gotta protect those tubes! They're getting kinda scarce!
