Gobos

For a while, I have been thinking about building some gobos for Sonikwire, based on a design I saw on the Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii vid. They show footage of them working on Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road, and they have some great gobos with metal frames and glass windows.

I was going to do all the welding and fabrication myself, but due to some other work I want to accomplish, this isn't going to happen in the near future.

I'd like to see what you are using for gobos in your studio and to see if you have any good recommendations for companies that sell good ones. Cubicle walls and other solutions aren't really going to cut it for the quality of look we strive for. It's gotta be cool.

Thanks,

Jason

I don't think you should dismiss cubicle walls. They come in all types, coverings, colours, and build qualities (of course I am selling some in the FOR SALE section here).

Honestly, I always have people come into my studio and ask where I am getting my gobos from! When I tell them I am using the cubicle walls, they are surprised. Truth is, that many of the gobo manufacturers make gobo's IDENTICAL to modular cubicle walls.

The ones I have have thick fabric covering with padding underneath, and use heavy duty metal frames. If anybody is curious, pm me, I could possibly get some pics.

Alternately, if you need the REALLY large ones, you should probably consider building them yourself, like you are talking about.

Yeah, you're right, I should probably look into those... I know they make them with plexi windows and that just might be the ticket.
