A great rackmount headphone amp..distributor

Can I get some opinions on good headphone amps for the studio.. I currently have a cheapie Samson 4-way headphone amp that fits in 1-U space and has EQ, and etc.

It works very well and does what it needs to... but.. for monitoring (accurately) on headphones.. I also have the Central Station.. and the headphone output.. sounds better..

Also is there a headphone amp (4-way,etc).. that has a balanced INPUT connection. All the cheapie ones are unbalanced.. Just curious

Honestly, I love the OZ Audio 4 channel dealy. . . I think Mackie bought the company. Real simple operation, balanced ins, and headphone amps that sound nice.

I also like the Furman 6 channel headphone amp.

If you can possibly live without rack mounting, you will be amazed at the difference a real headphone amp can make vs. those models. I have the Central Station and Samson 4-ch amps you have. And I have owned the Oz 4-ch, among others. They flat out do not compare in sound quality to these guys:

HeadRoom

Those are the real deal. The littlest model (2 outputs) is on sale for only $99. I bought one a while back and continue to be astounded at the improvement in audio quality.

Plus, all their amps have builtin crossfeed circuits, to open up the image and stop it from being just hard left and hard right in your ears. I can never again use regular amps without this effect.

These will drive two normal low-to-moderate impedance phones very well. If you need more power there are several other models. Expensive? Well... if I had not wasted $$hundreds on junk/ineffective amps for so many years I would have had a lot more cash available.

The way I use the Airhead is to send to it from the Central Station cue output. That way the amp itself can be tucked away anywhere, and the level control is right on the CS. But if you need multiple controls then would have to wire up something different -- like this perhaps: Redco Audio

Symetrix 304 headphone amp?

I'm also considering a headphone amplifier for my remote rack so at least 2 people can listen at once.
Has anybody used the Symetrix 304 Headphone Amplifier?
Any comments on how it compares to others?

Steve

Hearback ROCKS... I really dig it.

The sound of the amp is not WOW, probably just in the "okay" department but I am comparing that to the headphone amp on the Benchmark DAC-1 which is really special.

Outside of that, which is really a small complaint when we are talking about tracking, the Hearback system is the answer... for me at least.

Good luck.

If you want something hi-fi I'd go with one of these.

I've got one and it sounds quite good. It also has an extra loud channel which is especially useful for tracking drummers.
