Where to buy 2nd hand RADAR?

It seems to be that RADARs hardly ever appear on Ebay for sale. Do people love these things so much that they hang on to them forever?!?

Where can I find a 2nd hand RADARs (iZ/Otari/Radar II, doesn't matter) on the internet?

Cheers,

Nobody sells them because they're that good.

eBay and the Radar forum (www.recordingtheworld.com) seem to have the most chance.. There's a guy at homerecording.com who found a Nyquist one on eBay a year ago...

make sure you know the differences between the two. (see the iZ forums, Barry has outlined the differences in posts) Radar II doesn't do networking etc and will probably not be supported for too much longer if you look at some of the responses from the company.

former Radar24 owner. Loved it but it's a bit lacking in features for my type of work.

But, if he could get a real deal on an Otari it might be worth it- I believe IZ will upgrade the Otari one.

Absolutley they will up grade. My man Dana at IZ is cool and will help any Radar2 owner. And as for the Radar 2, I know that otari sold one with everything included (except svga) for $5100 dollars full warranty. Not everyone can fork over the $13,000. for a Radar 24 Classic , although i do think it's worth it. And this was about a year ago.

If you're interested in 96k nyquist converters then Radar 24 is the monster to with . As far as network ready buy a power mac G3 laptop, M-box and dump any wave file (pro tools, digi performer) 2 tracks at atime and vice versa and call it a Day!

what did the upgrade cost? Did it make it 100% comparable to a R24?

According to Dale ( IZ sales support ) between $5000 and $6000. Call him he's real cool 1-800-776-1356. And yes it upgrades it to a full Radar 24 classic.

I bought my RADAR from Dale. He's great and so are Will and Brad over in tech suport. I got lucky and was able to get a dealer demo for a lot less than new.

Which just goes to show . . .

We bought PT and two Radar Classics at the same time. We have kept both up to date. Tjhe PT is worth about $2,000 with the G4. The Radars are now actually worth slightly more than they were worth back then (as a result of extra drives etc.)

If only more manufacturers thought like iZ Tech . . .

Meter Bridge

Although it does look good, you do not need the meter bridge. It costs a fair amount and the meter display if you are using a good flat screen is more useful.

Depending on how you work you surely do not NEED the MB. I THINK your point is that this is a good place to save money. If so, I would agree you can save money this way.

But I routinely move the session controller and MB "out in the room". I just roll them out there on top of the ole BRC stand I have leftover and I am all set.

Even when I take the SC and MB back into the control room I don't use a full screen monitor much. I spend a lot of other time looking at a screen (editing, etc.) and really enjoy focusing on the sound (not implying you do not).

Just my perspective.....
