Can anyone compare a Mojave MA200, Peluso P12-Peluso 2247SE, Wunder CM7 GT

I am in need of a nice vocal microphone. For male voice, nice acoustic and pop rock type stuff. I want a microphone that sound better than what I am already using. I currently have a AT 4047 and a Shure SM7B. Both sound great but I want to get into a nice tube microphone. Max I want to spend is say $3k. Preamp I am using is a pacifica, into an 1176, rosetta 800, PTHD. Singer is John Mayer/Timberlake mix. But does some cool bono esque rock stuff as well.

I can only speak on behalf of the Mojave and tell you that I love it. It sounds great on male vocals. I have been using it quite a bit with a Calrec 1061 and really like it on my voice but it has sounded even better on the other two male singers I have used it on. Maybe it is because I have such a crap girly voice and I want to puke every time I hear it. I am not a mic pro by any stretch but it has something special about it in the midrange. For the money I can't imagine someone regretting buying it. Keep us posted

The one of these I have is the MA-200 as well. I call it an "acoustic spotlight" since it has such a presence peak...it brings anything to the front of the mix. It rings higher than most and has very controlled proximity effect. It's quite different than these others.

I really don't know what mic to use until I hear it with the singer & song. All of the ones listed will be acceptable (perhaps with some eq/comp) but each will bring a different thing to the mix that may either be consistent or not with the general concept being presented.

heybulldog, what would you change about your AT4047...in other words what different characteristics do you want to hear compared to that mic? The AT4047 is very popular, and if you could state that you feel the AT4047 is _____ and you would like something else to sound _____ you will get more useful responses.

Just a suggestion.

Its not that I don't like the 4047 or the sm7b

The SM7B is very neutral, kind of plain sounding, at times nasally very 1 dimensional great for rock stuff not so open sounding for pretty melodies.

The 4047 is a great sounding microphone. Its more open sounding, has a bit more flavor in the top end is a bit more 2 dimensional and at times sounds 3D. It seems to have less nasally tone than the SM7 but does have a strong midrange. I feel like it could have thicker lows, more depth and maybe a bit warmer sounding. But its really hard to say because again its a great microphone.

The singer I am working with has a killer voice with a good pre and a sm57 he sounds good. At times great.

But I want to gain that extra extra from the microphone.

WE tried out the mojave and it was nice, had a bit more dimension a bit more warmth and bigger lows compared to the other 2 microphones that I had. But it didn't seem to be that much better over the 4047 and SM7 to warrant spending a grand. It also in a mix seemed to lose alot of the added benefits and sounded very close in quality to the other two microphones. In fact the others might have sat in the mix a bit better. The Mojave also seemed to clip a bit on its own and at times have a touch of grain.

these are my observations, hopefully this helps.

I won't deny the "grain" you sensed/heard, it's there and I a little bit love it. As far as the clipping I think that is just in the proximity and set up, it is pretty sensitive. In fact you have already hurt it's feelings with your last post.

Dude... just listen to a bunch of them... nobody here shares your sense of aesthetic [except the pimps that are trying to sell you their wares, or the inexperienced who are pleased with their most recent purchase... which may or may not have included a comparative analysis]... in which case they'll tell you how wonderful ____ might be when if you actually had tried ____ next to ____ you'd have found that ____ suited your purposes way better than ____.

Use your ears... not your eyes.

Peace.

There are some dealers that will let you try the mic out in your room with your equipment. If it is not what your looking for then any dealer worth his salt will turn you on to what it is your after.
