| Lives for gear | IMO it doesn't even compare to a 67 or 47 ... the first thing I thought when I tried a classic II was "ouch, eSSSes from hell" really annoying hi end, but some folks seem to go for that kind of sound ![]()

| Don't have many miles with any of the above Neuman's but do own the Classic II. It's. Like Mario - C says it's can be quite generous with the SSSS. Depends on who's behind it.. I assume you got an offer to buy one? How much? Jens |

| If you use it with a Neve1073 and some vintage compressor it sounds fairly good ,maybe better then a 87 but not as good as 47 67

| I have the original Rode Classic and I love this mic. I too had a problem with sssiblance and occaisional plosives but I realized that it was the mic pre and compressor combination that I had the problems with. I have gone through a lot of tube stuff and mid end solid state stuff and where I had the problems were the tube stuff becoming noisy or humming so I decided to use my drum mic pres (Presonus Digimax) for vocals and it didn't sound great but, it was clean with no hum. Recently I bought the Mackie 800R to replace the Digimax for drums but I decided to try it on vocals with the Rode Classic and it was like I had a new high end mic. It sounded clean and the tone was a lot better without any of the usual little EQ tweaks. Now I am looking to get a high end mic pre but I am reluctant to look into tube stuff mainly because I want a mic pre that I can just turn on every day and it will be consistant sounding and reliable. I know there are a lot of new tube mic pres like the Avalon 737, Presonus ADL600 and others but, there are also good solid state stuff like the Portico, Vintech and others. Let me know if I am missing any others. Sorry if I seem like I am hijacking this thread but I just had to add my 2 cents.

| Personally - I think the K2 is a much better mic in the Rode line.. a lot cheaper, too |

| I think it is a great mic. I chose it over a groovetube (now that is sizzly) and a vintage U87. I think the Classic II sounds like the U87 with a little more presence. But I have no problems with sibiliance. It has a smooth vintage top end. Before I had a TLM103 causing esses with every singer. Well, I'm proud of the classic II!!!

| Lives for gear | one thing I've found with those Rode classics is that they are very "room dependant" that is in a so-so room they sound horrendous but in a nice treated room they can sound great ... that said I still think they are quite bright |
