this year's slut-fest so far

This year I updated a bunch of my analog gear and I went digital (finally).
So I built myself a kick-arse computer and got PT-10 and a UA-2 duo card and gobs of UA, Waves,... plug-ins. Steep learning curve but I am getting there.

On the knobby gear side of things:
SSL Nucleus
Neve Portico II
Manley Vari-mu
Manley stereo Pultec
Burl B2
Dynaudio mons + sub
UA 610
Pelosso 2247
those are the sluttiest. Pretty much busted my budget!
oh yeah, updated some stuff in the lab, like a newer style Wavetek signal generator and a Fluke handheld scope.
Updating some of my older gear. On the bench right now are my 2 DBX 165A's.

I didn't buy it, but it is perty rad. It's an old Akai reel to reel set up that looks something like this: http://www.gallagher.com/photos/2008/akai_gx266d.jpg

One of my buddies friends just gave it to me after an old man had dumped it on him. One mans trash is another mans mechanical fetish fix. Plus its Akai, and since I'm a youngster I only knew Akai through the midi pad market - had no idea they made r2rs back in the day!

sorry OT, but..

"back in the day" .. they also had a proprietary 12 track system.. mid-late eighties - I seem to recall it used beta tapes? .. I know a few locals who still have the masters for this format.

For me it's been an interesting year...

I planned to be in a house by April, latest May, but in finding the best deal, I am now just getting to the closing stages...

I've still managed to acquire a variety of new mics, not necessarily things you can purchase, but ones I've modded after getting into swapping capsules. I'm pretty infatuated with one in particular. It was an old version I Studio Projects T3. I swapped the tube for a JJ ecc803, put a microphone parts ck12 capsule in it, painted the body black and picked up a Rycote shockmount for it. Stunning sounding and looking. May even get the power supply hot rodded at some point.

I've also picked up a Primacoustic London 12a kit, a Ross Martin Audio A/D unit that I'm absolutely in love with, and I've shipped off my Profire 2626 to get modded by Black Lion Audio. I've also got a Furman F1000ups on the way.

It's little tweaks for me at this point. Once I'm in the house, it'll be a matter of adding the final touches, more guitars, an acoustic, strat and shred guitar, more snares, more cymbals, another bass, more iso booths...you get the drift...

Nothing particularly high end, but some fun stuff:

Distressor with the Brit Mod/Stereo Image Link and an MD-421 from stamand here on GS. Great guy to deal with.

Also got an Oktava MK-012-01 and an Ensoniq SQ-80.

Gotta say for smaller items like mics the GS Classifieds are an AWESOME resource!

Sadly I have to start saving for my next car :(

Sluttiest?

Like seven guitar amps... 20 microphones... 6 channels of 500 pre... 6 more channels of CAPI pres... TWO RME/UFX...

My retirement account hates me, if I can even call it that. Eh, you only die once!

I bought about $5000 worth of tubes this year. That should count for something...

D-Box
2 x JLM PEQ500's
1 x Lil Devil Comp
2 x VP25

All bought at same time, in an effort to build my own room at home after working out of a few other very slutty rooms over the last several years.

Not "slutty" per se, but the DIY treatment I made and added sure has lead to sluttier sounds

I bought a set of Urei 1176ln. I like them a lot.
And also a pair of silver Urei La-4's.
A Distressor.
A Minimoog and a Memorymoog.

And that's about all the money I could spent for gear this year.

I like my 42's, but picked them up before the sub was available - so they're only secondary reference monitors for me currently.

How well does the sub fill out the missing lower range?

I don't know. I guess I bought mine right on the transition for the new version of the sub they are about to release. I'm hoping they ship it to me at some point :p

I love the 42's though. I really excited for the sub to arrive. I was amazed how not piercing yet still detailed they are.

Definitely not the sluttiest in price, but definitely sluttiest sound wise for me:

A pair Lindell Audio 6x-500

For $300, literally blew my mind.

If I could get all clients to pay their bills, or even some to pay their bills in a more timely manner, I'd have had a much sluttier year. FML

I recently bought a Grace M101 from fellow slut Mr. Rich here too. That's the only thing since the spring.

I guess the out and out sluttiest thing is my new control room, or maybe my 3 new live rooms, or my soffit mounted ATC monitors...
