Looking for a dedicated CD player/recorder. Something basic but reliable (don’t need any of the extra futures as in MasterLink). So many choices out there: Sony, Hhb, Tascam, Marantz. Would appreciate feedback from users.

HHB BurnIt has 24bit AD converters.

I would get the masterlink over the tascam. I have a tascam cdrw 5000 that doesn't burn 90% of the time and is only an over expensive cd player these days. Maybe their newer ones are better. There used to be a forum at tascam with lots of people saying the same thing. I have heard that the hhb are pretty reliable.

Is there any reason to having a burner like say the Masterlink and burn CD's off a computer as well?

Second thought…. Just burn in the computer and get a nice CD player instead (cheaper). I have a Tascam CDRW2000 myself but don’t use it for burning (its converters are not that good). Why use another set of external converters (unless you don’t use computers). |

I have a fostex CR-200 (not sure about the number) ... and couldn't be happier with it ... don't care for the convertors ... it has aes in and that's what I use to go into it. A dedicated burner is worth it's money merely for the times you have to burn a quick reference CD after tracking / pre mixing ... or to check mixes. It's so much easier and faster then going through the hassle of bouncing to disk first.
