| agreed, the 3a's are in another universe entirely, and it's a beautiful universe. top to bottom freq perfection, insane imaging, uncanny translation. the 2.5's are a huge step down, and sound nothing like their big brothers. imho, in this price range there are much better performing/sounding options. gregoire del ubk .

| I listened to all of them. I liked the S2.5's better Rupert Neve picked a pair of S2.5's just after I did at AES San Francisco.

| the 2.5 and 3 are just very different sounding speakers, with the 2.5 being more in the camp of the A7, sound-wise. i auditioned all three a little while ago and got the 3s because i felt, for ME, they would make a better mix tool. You really have to hear them for yourself and see how your ears judge them. i found the 2.5 to be a bit "hi-fi" sounding, with more bloom in the bass and with the tweeter point slid up a few k from the s3a. since i was coming off 10 years on 1031s i went for the s3a which are less flattering but much more revealing and unified in the full frequency spectrum than the 2.5. it can be helpful to think of speaker brands as a families of sound. you know, genelecs sound like this, adams sound like that, jbl has this sonic signature. that being said, i think adam speakers are all very good mix tools- you just have to learn them. PS. after a month of working on the adams, i am stupified at how much better my mixes sound. it was immediate and dramatic. whoa. david |
