eventide eclipse expression pedal - cant find one :(

hi guys!

i have an eventide eclipse and i've been trying to find an expression pedal that works with it. I've tried a few - the last being a yamaha fc7, but no luck - nearly all the sweep is in the first few degrees of movement of the pedal. This is despite the fact it seems to meet the eventide specs - i.e. a linear pot between 5k and 20k.

I asked the guys at eventide for help but they were useless - they said they dont take questions on other manufacturers and cant recommend a brand/model pedal that works... they say on their site:

'The Pedal's Potentiometer should be around 10K (5K - 20K), with track connected between ring and sleeve and slider connected to tip. It will have a stereo 1/4" jack. As long as these values are respected and calibration is executed, ANY brand pedal will work fine. '

can anyone help me out? ....any idea why this yamaha pedal doesnt work? or what will work?

really hope someone can help me here asi m running out of options!

thanks guys,

sache

have you checked that the pedal settings are correct in the Eclipse OS?
seems like it behaves like a momentary switch, or that there is a bad calibration somewhere.

hi, thanks for the replies

i tried that official eventide yahoo forum - i found the eventide guy to be unhelpful in responding, and he missed out crucial info on advice he gave me, leading me to waste money on pedals....

so i'll stick with people here

a guy at yamaha says the pot is 500k linear, so im going to replace it with 10k linear - anyone have an idea how though?

i guess just unsoldered the other one and stick the new one on, but experience tells me there's always something else ya need to know...

Yep - also it seems expression is setup by default as the expression wheel on a keyboard (according to that page of the manual). That could explain why, "nearly all the sweep is in the first few degrees of movement of the pedal"... but I don't know for sure about this. It's just my initial thought when I looked at the manual and your problem.

Since the pedal is working - you should be able to set a "range" for its top to bottom. There possibly would be a "midi learn" function (where you press the pedal up and down to "show" the eventide its range) or a manual way to set it by numbers.

Good Luck

hey, i found out from yamaha that the pot is actually 500k linear (no 10k like googling info shows) so i have to change the pot.... hopefully this will be ok - anyone tried doing this? any words of caution?

Before you do that please read the stuff at;

http://www.eventide.com/technote/techn204.htm

hopefully you haven't read it yet. I have an Ernie ball stereo pedal that I am using as a temp and had to manually change the toe parameter. It was a learning experience as the manual says that you can just hit calibrate and move the pedal, well it just ain't so with some. I got pointed to that tech note and in particular;

Quote:
For instance, this Proel pedal of mine is ranging from 0.0 to 97.7...it's 2.3 below the necessary 100.0 max level.

How does one fix it?

Leave the pedal in the max position...flat out...down TOE

Start MANUALLY DECREASING the TOE parameter slowly, while watching the pedal value going UP.

Stop when the pedal monitor hits 100.0

Look at TOE: it's down to 97.7% ! ! !

I have just compensated for the missing 2.3 % range from the pedal into the unit.
I have just started lurking around here but hopefully I caught you before you went replacing pots!

cheers;

hey man, thanks for the reply - i knew about that... it's not so much a range problem i have as a sweep thing - i've given my yamaha in to be modified with a 10k pot and hopeully it will be a nice linear sweep now - a really good feeling pedal. much better than that roland sh*te, but everything i've ever bought from roland is crap... no more roland for me!
