i see no one ever replied here... i can answer in part: i own a VM1 (one part of the vma sounds) and also had the korby kat 5. i can assure you with all certainty that none of the kat heads offered sound like a vm1. the vm1 is in a class all it's own. i did like the korby kat 5 a lot but in the end chose to sell it and buy a wunder cm7gt. i most often use the 47 sound or the vm1 sound for lead vocals. also have a vintage u87 for another option, sm7b, etc. korby will give you lots of choices and bang for the buck but not the brauner vm1 sound. i've had no experience with the vmx side of the vma but curious just as well. |

I have a lot of experience with all 3. #1 by a mile is the VMA. In a league of its own. #2 the Blue Bottle. Especially Cap 0 and 6. 7 I don't care for. 4 is pretty good for rooms although on the bright side. #3 Korby Kat. Its not a bad mic at all. If it didn't come with names like 47,67 and C12 it would be ok. If you've heard a real 47, 67, C12 and hope to get the same sound out of the Korby you're in for a rude awakening. |

syra, i've read a bunch of other threads about vma and many love it. i have a vm1 but am interested in the other sound of the vma. do you think it'd be worth selling my vm1 to get the vma, even though i also have old u87, wunder cm7gtm sm7? |

I bought the VMA two and half years ago and never regret that I did. I compered it with a Blue Bottle (with cap 6 I think in) a studio in Brussels and I really liked the Blue but VMA got the vocal mic job. Both mic went thru Neve 1073's. The VMA is a really really good mic. |

I tend to use that side more over the VM1. Having said that the difference is not HUGE. But I love options so...VMA it is! | |

****ing huge +1 here for the VMA mic. An absolute modern classic and coupled with the 1073 pre it sounds huge! Paul
