UPS

I have a UPSonic Power Guardian (that is what it's called). It's a surge protection and power backup with automatic voltage regulator. Now I haven't connected it to my system yet. I was going to use this box for location work, but i've knocked that idea on the head.
Is this a good thing to have on my studio system...because I have 4 separate circuits coming directly off my main power meter board into my studio and the power in my area is pretty good. I haven't had any problems to date and really just don't want another thing to turn on and off (you know what I mean).
Is a UPS going to make any improvements to my recordings? Do any of u guys use something similar?

Put your computer and monitor on the UPS first, then use any remaining wattage for audio gear.

Speakers performance seems to benefit from AVR too, depends on your source though.

So when is a UPS needed?
If your power into the studio is ok does the UPS make any difference?

Depends on many things. If you have an always-online UPS which outputs a constant sine-wave 120v signal (and always runs off of batteries), you benefit from a lot more of filtering of the power of the type claimed by rack-mount furman units and the like. They can be had fairly cheap from ebay, but cost around $500 and up new (depending on the size you need). We run two 10 amp ones on a dedicated circuit in our studio, a studio in an industrial building with very unclean power, and they are very effective tools for combating power fluctuations and the noisy building power. For our situation, it provides as much noise reduction in our system as the Equitech we have running on another circuit. But your electrical system may have different needs.
