Price-Quality Levels of convertors ?

What would be the 4th level of convertors in the price/quality range below:

LEVEL 1 - $ 8-10K = Prism, ...

LEVEL 2 - $ 5-7K = Lavry, ...

LEVEL 3 - $ 3-5K = Mytec, Apogee, Lynx, ...

LEVEL 4 - $ 2-3K = ?

LEVEL 5 - $ 1-2K = RME, Motu

LEVEL 6 - $500-1K = Edirol, M-Audio, etc...

Sorry but I kinda think the Apogee DA/AD-16X are still expensive... 2 babies of these (AD+DA) + a Symphony card for $ 10K?? Freaks me out a bit
So I 'm looking for alternatives

Don't forget the Tango24s...superlative boxes with ADDA equal to some units costing much MUCh more, yet they are lower in price than equivanlent sounding units due to their 48K limitation...

There are still superlative conversions found on Alesis HD24XR ($2000?), Yamaha and Sony digital mixers ($1200 - $15K)....Lets not leave out Euphonics ($???)...Radar at up to what, $15K for the Super Nyquist? It all kind of depends on where you want to draw the proverbial sampling rate line in the sand, I think...

Which, judging from most polls on GS, should not be any real issue (seems a hige majority of respondents still work exclusively at 44.1 or 48....)

Price is not always indicitive of quality... but in your chart, the Aurora Lynx 16 falls neatly into that niche....and again is a much better sounding system thant the price would indicate....

Just an opinion.

I understand you wanting to separate converters based upon price, but be aware that this is no indication of quality. Also, both Apogee and Lynx make options in the $2000 to $3000 range.

As far as the Apogee AD/DA and Symphony system costing $10000, well I think you are a little off. My rough estimate puts them at $7,200. Sure that's not cheap, but it combines some amazing sounding converters with Symphony's unheard of performance.
