Mega are my favourite band no question, but they can afford to come to Australia, King's X can't I don't think. King's X are the only band I would travel to the US to see.

Well, if you catch a show here in Nashville, come on by and we have dinner...

You will be so glad you did! A King's X live show is something special. Great songs, great musicanship, great sound, and the friendliest, nicest fans. And when you get a whole bunch of musicians and music-geeks together in one room, singalongs (especially Goldilocks!) are wicked cool.

3-part harmonies coming from the audience? Yep. Awesome.

Even their "bad" shows, should you catch one, are great shows. I saw a show in Brooklyn on the Manic Moonlight tour (fall 2002 I think?) that the guys would consider "bad." Doug was having lots of trouble with his in-ears, and was getting seriously pissed off. Plus the show started at like 1 am, even though doors opened at 8.

Anyways, point is that Doug poured all his frustration at everything going wrong into his performance, and sang a version of "What Is This?" that was truly frightening. I am glad I saw that show, just for that. And Cigarettes.

I hope you catch a great show. They're even better.

King's X shows are unbelievable... something to be experienced at least once in a lifetime, if not as many times as humanly possible. They set the bar for the ultimate ridiculously tight live rock band with enough vibe to move mountains. They will blow your mind.

At the last King's X show I was at, I was up at the front of the stage, Doug reached down and touched my bald head... (maybe there was too much glare coming off the top of my head )... it was a religious experience, as with every other King's X show I've ever attended.

Once you see these guys live, you will truly understand the meaning of ROCK.

Last Kings X show I attended was absolutely way too loud. My ears were ringing for days. It was actually in a small club but was set up for an outdoor show. Neither their sound nor backline was ratio'd down for a small club. Doug had to stack his ampeg 8x10's on their side three high to maximize floor space. What would you expect for the hometown crowd right?

I sincerely hope that you were using ear plugs. I would not consider going to ANY live music event without having my musicians ear plugs.

Musicians ear plugs yield a flat response to the ear so the sound is excellent, just attenuated. I use them at concerts, when gigging, even when riding motorcycles or driving convertibles... etc

I just heard from Ty, that the release date has been moved back to October 2007, don't ask me why. I don't get it, there is a killer album and the label takes their sweet time to put it on the market, oh well. Sorry guys, you'll have to wait a while... (but I promise it's well worth it )

I saw King's X this spring. The 3 part harmony from the audience freaked me out. When I asked my buddy who turned me on to the band why the audience sang in 3-part harmony, his reply was, "they're all musicians".

Then it all made sense.........

Funny, I was just thinking about the album today - there's a thread on another forum wondering why these guys aren't more popular, and just like you pointed out, Jeff and wildstar (Jeff!), musicians really appreciate what King's X brings to the table, but who knows why they are under-appreciated by a broader fan base. Hopefully this album will be the one to build the buzz they deserve...

Really looking fwd to seeing them with the Randall stuff!

Seen them when Ty was using his "secret" Lab Series

Seen them a couple of times with the Line 6 stuff... Just wasn't the same as the old tones!

According to my friend who "sorta' knows the guys in the band, they have released a live CD that was derived from a ZROCK broadcast I mixed of them in 1992.

My friend worked as an assistant on the live remote and cloned a DAT copy.
He burned a CD two summers ago and gave it to them at a live gig in Hollywood.

He recently found a CD with the material from the Dallas ZROCK show at a record store called Amoeba in Hollywood.
Of course, I am un-credited.

The last I heard was that the label got bought out by SPV and the new release date is March or April 2008. It's actually a good thing, because the new label has more money for promotion and is planning to come out with a few different packages, one of which is vinyl.

It's been very hard for me not to put up anything here, because I know how much you guys are waiting for it, but my hands are tight. So for now you just have to come to the studio to hear the new album

Didn't you do a whole thread about this already?

Metallic... Kings X... They Love my Mixes... DAMNED if They'll Credit Me! NOT JOKING

In that thread you said that YOU gave your friend a copy of the live broadcast - now you claim he was an assistant on the live remote and HE cloned a DAT? Which is it?

IMHO, at this point you should either:

a) get over it or

b) sue them and get the credit on the next pressing, and on the All Music Guide and CD Universe on-line credit listing

Ty, Dug and Jerry are reasonable folks and not known for f*kking people or taking advantage of those who have worked with and/or supported them.

Of course, legally they could most likely simply have asked ZROCK for the master and released it themselves, since they own the Performance copyright as well as the publishing.

Boy! You sure do get cheesed off don't you?

I was making the point because someone asked "what is up" and I though they might be interested in the fact that the live material is released.

I don't really care at all if they release it because I was ALREADY PAID FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!
My point wasn't that I felt cheated.

My point in the other post was too watch out and make sure that you DO get credit.
A recording/mix credit on a King's X CD release is not going to benefit me and my world in the least.
I was just making a point.

Actually, because it was a few years back and I have done A LOT of stuff since I forgot (God forbid) that my friend asked me if he could clone the DAT.
Now that I think about it. He went to the studio and dupped the DAT probably after I left that partnership. No-one cared if he did.
It was few years ago and I have slept since.

Truthfully, the band DOESN'T own the recording.
ZROCK didn't own the recording either.
The label paid for it and they own the recording.
Still, I (aside from my friend who has a clone) were the only people with a copy of anything.

I gave copies of the dhows to many of the bands, but few released a CD of the show.
Those that did gave me credit.

Occasionally. You did say, in one of your posts on that thread - "I wish that I never mentioned this now!" - yet you brought it up again in this thread.

Quote:

Well, now I am confused - did they release it, or not?

And if they did, and the CD was mastered from the DAT that your friend gave them, would he have also given them the list of personnel that worked on the recording, in order that you and the others could actually *be* credited?

I would think, if they were going to release a live album from a show they did that was officially recorded by a prominent radio station in their home state, that they could source the actual masters (rather than use a CD of a DAT clone of your DAT) and also work out any legal and logistical issues with releasing it.

Quote:

King's X isn't on that label anymore. They could easily have bought the masters or licensed the rights from Atlantic.

In 1992, they were on Atlantic and released "King's X". In 1994 they released "Dogman" on Atlantic and toured extensively behind it. There is a live album from Dallas from that tour, released independently last year on Wally Farkus' label Molken Music, called 'Live and Live Some More' which was recorded on May 8 of 1994. Is that the show you are talking about (you said originally it was a ZROCK b'cast from 1992)?

If so, then according to The Phantom Tollbooth Ty and Wally remastered it in such a way that it differs from the bootlegs of the show (which would have come from over-the-air recordings, as well as from any subsequent copies made from your DAT) - to wit:

Quote:

The bootleg has been available to traders for years, but the sound here is cleaned up and is well worth the effort. "Complain" opens the show, and ironically, shows the effects of the editing - the vocal harmonies have been removed from one of the choruses.
It would appear from that information that Ty had a different master than the DAT copy you made. Was there a multi-track of the performance that he might have gotten his hands on? If so, then it could very well be his own mix that was released, and not yours.

The "Import" of "Go Tell Somebody" is set for release on April 1st, according to Amazon.com. You can pre-order now...

Amazon.com: Go Tell Somebody: King's X: Music

They don't have a picture of the cover art yet.

mwagener, You mentioned the record company is planning to release a few different packages. Do you know if the "Import" version will be different than the domestic release?

I think Jerry is such a great drummer that he could be playing on soapboxes and make it sound good. I do like the GMS drums, finally somebody who didn't want to use my kit, refreshing.
