API EQs and OSA rack--Anyone Having Problems? API EQs and OSA Rack Problem

Has anyone had any problems with using an API 550B, 554, 553, Aengus, etc. module with an Old School Audio rack? Sometimes, depending on what is before (or after?) the module the sound is low and distorted, leading me to believe that something is unbalanced and out of phase, though I have checked my wiring and it is solid. Thanks!

I dont know if this helps at all, but I have 2 OSA MP1-L's and 2 API 512c's in an OSA rack and have had zero issues. Obviously not EQ's but hey more info for ya!

I've run 550A's in my 8 space OSA frame with zero problems. Have you tried different slots? If the EQ's are only freaking out before or after certain pieces of gear it might well be a balanced/unbalanced issue. Time to make some cables or check continuity with a multi-meter...

I wonder how much of this is reality and how much of it is Paul Wolff letting off steam? I read that old post where he mentioned liability and CE compliance (European Union passport for selling stuff over there in case you didn't know) and he makes a good point, but what are the odds?

Couldn't the same be said of any boutique piece of gear? Does this make Korby or Blue power supplies equally questionable? (I have no specific knowledge about their liability, safety, CE or UL listed status, just trying to make a point). Just asking...

I was thinking the same thing. No big deal to me either way because I power down my stuff when I am not there and when I am I hope I could catch it before something really bad would happen.

I like Paul W. seems like a good guy but do remember the source.

...back to the original topic... I am having a similar issue with my API lunchbox. The common element we have is the 550B eq. It's got an unbalanced input and ballanced output. I've been told that you must unbalance your signal before going into the eq. I say screw that! I'm gonna mod it. Lundhal transformer on the input and on the output. Keep it clean and smooth in true SLUTZ fashion!!! thumbsup

I've had two API 550b's in my OSA rack for the last year or more. They've worked great. There are various ways to change the pin settings on the rack, if there is some kind of problem like this (where a 500 series module that's proven to work, doesn't work), please contact us and we'll make sure your problem is taken care of.

One thing people don't know is; API EQs are unbalanced on the input. Very weird but true, I have confirmed this through API. This is not stated very clearly
