Who knows this guitarhead by Trace Elliot

who-knows-guitarhead-trace-elliot-trace-elliot-amplifier.jpg

Who knows this guitarhead? I just got myself two Trace cabinets (1x12). And the guy who sold them to me, gave me this head for free. I now have info about the pre used (it's modular) It's the GPR-3. But the endhead (stereo) aint on the website of Trace Elliot, and so aint the complete head.

Hope someone can help me. As I'd like to service this thing and make good use of it. It did not come with a footcontroller (Din-5 connector) to switch on and off the three channels. Still got to tackle that.

Nope,

It has three channels, a tube and can distort like nothing else. Even the channels can be blend. I read Richie Sambora used to play something like this..... But this amphead really seem to have no name.

I believe its the Road 160 ---- tube pre/solid state power amp with output transformers!

I vaguely remember the speaker cab was a weird shape to disperse the sound better (stereo?)

IIRC, it had 3 speakers and was mono. Could've been called "Trident", but I'm not sure.

Nope

The GRP-3 has 1 ecc83 tube, three channels, wich can be blend, it has a tuner a gate, internal (chipbased) reverb and efx loop. So it does not fit the Harmony central description.

The stereo amp is the G-CA160-S wich is a stereo mosfet amplifier wich delivers 16 ohm 80w sound. And it is a lot LOUDER than my two Fender M80 combos from the same area.

Reply from Trace elliot

Today I got a reply from Trace elliot. I was told it just was called GRP3.

Besides that the guy that mailed me, had no real information about this head. I was happy they replied. But it is really time for a Trace Elliot "the guitaramplifier museum".

The above footswitch, is in France. My guitarhead is in The Netherlands. And Ebay listed no other guitarhead all over the world. Talk about rare....

Thanks everyone who responded.

Triangle

Hi, Saw on Marktplaats (some sort of Ebay) a couple of 3x12" guitarcabs mentioned. The seller calls them Triangle. I have asked him for a pic. If he responds with a picture I will post it here.

Thanks,

Here is a picture of a strange but great guitarcabinet.

I do not own it. But now I understand the styling of the guitarhead better.

There is a reason the Trace Elliot name is primarily associated with bass rigs and not guitar tone.

I can't remember if R. Sambora endorsed these things or not but if I were him I would get the top guitar amp guru's to build me custom amps and endorse the whoever paid the most.

That said if this amp works for you then I should just shut the f*** up

Cheers,

V

You said it! The GRP-3 was a great preamp, and the accompanying power amp very innovative. Excellent amp with lots of flexibility.
