5.1 Mixing: What speakers are you using?

Hey-O

To all you slutz mixing in 5.1, what near- to mid-field monitors are you liking? Anything you are really NOT liking? Powered? Amped? Subs?

Thanks in advance,
nh

(5) Adam S3a's, and the Sub1 (has 2 10" drivers). It is what you would think it is.

When in surround, I use an M&K LFE4 bass manager which is pretty transparent, but the crossover points are all set in stone. Next time I do a surround project I think I'm going to explore some of the other monitor control solutions out there- Grace, and I think Tascam make digital ones. Then there are a bunch of analog options as well.

Nice! I'll put them on the list.

Anyone have experience with JBL LSR6300 series in 5.1? Or M&K? What else?

What other bass management units are people liking or hating? It would be great to have one that is quickly bypass-able and with a variable crossover, or at least a couple of options for what frequency.

Actually, it would be great to find one monitor controller that includes all of that, plus source and speaker selections, headphone, etc, etc... The centre section of an AWS900 would be great. Too bad it's not available as a stand-alone unit.

Feed me info!

Thanks,
n

i'm using the media desk 5.1 setup - and for the price you can't do any better -

the mid and high range as well are excellent - bear in mind that Lucasfilm / Skywalker Studios standardized on Blue Sky 5.1 and 2.1's.

JBL LSR 25 Ps, a Blue Sky Sub, and a Martinsound ManagerMAX (5.1 bass management with variable crossovers and great analog sound). I also have an M&K MX-70 sub and bass manager on a separate system.

I've got two 5.1 setups. Both JBL LSR28P's with the JBL sub. They both absolutely kill! The 12P sub is just "OK" though, but the speakers are phenomenal. The 25P's are great too if you don't need to get too loud. With them, you will absolutely need the 12P if you want extended low end.

Click below in my footer... The Profels really do clearly outperform Genelecs. I compared the PS65s with G 8050s.

I am using the Tannoy Ellipse idp's - 5 Ellipse 8 idp's and 2 Dual 12" subs L & R on ethernet with remote. It's a very lovely listening experience. Cheers

I'm using ADAM S2A's plus a BagEnd 12" sub with built-in bass management.
