Advice Needed !!

Hi,

Having been happy with my current setup (AT4047/SV, Great River ME-1NV into a MOTU 2408) I was wondering what would be a better choice. I basically do VO recordings and track singers using a variety of talent for radio commercials. I do like the AT a lot but as no one mic is perfect I was wondering if a mic that would complement the AT maybe better or an AD/DA converter e.g Rosetta 200 would prove a better choice/improvement. Thanks for any suggestions.

P.S Any ideas on a mike to compliment the AT-4047? I was thinking maybe a dragonfly as is sounds very different (on 3dCD) and may complement other voices that the AT doesn’t.

instead of going with the Dragonfly,
consider a Red Microphones Type B with R6 Capsule.

this microphone's capsule is styled after the C12 and would probably be a good counterpoint to the 4047.
the Red Mic Type B system uses interchangeable capsules and is a great buy IMO.

full disclosure: i have a Red Microphones Type B with the R8 capsule (and love it), and haven't used the R6, but it seems like it could be a good fit.
i also have an AT4047 and i love it too!

another option would be a Peluso P12 tube microphone.

hopefully you will get more responses. welcome to the forums!

cheers,
~j.d.

For VO and radio commercials I'd take a look at the Brauner Phantom.
