Any opinions on Dynaudio M3s (passive)

Just curious as there's a pair secondhand. I appreciate it's probably futile to ask for opinions on speakers but maybe some of you own a pair. My room is 15ft deep by 22 wide.

If you're willing to invest in some serious ($$$) amplification, they can be seriously nice speakers........

They chew watts and will eat an underpowered amp for breakfast.

friend of mine has a set of those wall mounted at his place ... powered by crest audio amps I believe. He's into heavy / hardcore dance / trance and I've allways thought they sounded pretty amazing ... but that could also be his programming / AE capabilities of course.

just as a side note ... imvho your room is on the smallish side for them I think ... all that energy needs space to go with it but then again ... milages vary.

The physical size and range of the M3P versus the size of his room aren't what concern me. Small rooms are always going to have their issues, regardless the speaker size. And large woofers in a small room don't need to work as hard, yielding less distortion. So, the size is fine in my opinion.

The crossovers is what I have a problem with. The 3700Hz midrange/tweeter crossover point is rather high. It's intended to give the M3P a high power handling capacity and, therefore, high SPLs. However, it comes at the expense of a fairly deep off-axis midrange response dip. This must be accounted for in the room's acoustic response. It also yields a narrow response window both horizontally and vertically. The size of the "sweet spot" is a function of this solid angle around the center axis and the listening distance. [sine(theta)* distance] So, it's not such a problem in large rooms where the monitors are far way. In a small room, however, the monitors will be close to the listener and the sweet spot will be correspondingly smaller.
