| Check out the new Innward Connections line! Hey all, i got a chance to demo Steve Ferlette's new inward line. You can check them out at boutique audio.com. very cool stuff. It comes as a sidecar type of thing, with an all tube power supply. It powers up to 8 modules. Still seems a bit overkill for a P.S. to be this big , but oh well. The pres sounded great! Similar to the UA which they're losely based on but way cleaner....more "hi fi" if you will. Great on vocals, guitar......STUNNING on drum overheads. Tried r-122's, 4050''s, the josephson c-42's all with great results. His pultec style eq was killer on snare drum.....killer 10k. Great on female vocal. The "la-2 style" compressors as they dub it were very impressive. You can slam them without any nasty artifacts...again very "hi fi". Very cool retro looking stuff. Feels geat too.....you know you're putting your hands on very well built gear. Kinda pricey ,but cool stuff IMHO. Just wanted to pass along my results!.... |

| In addition to making great products, Steve is a top-notch guy. As far as doing business, I put him at the top of my list. Class-act all the way. Laser |

| That side car has actually been out for at least a year... As for the powersupply. Good tube gear has big power supplies. The guy that designed Vac Rac did some of the power supply work on that. They are somewhat overbuilt, but it makes a HUGE difference in the final sound you get out of it. --Ben |

| When you look at the pictures online, it looks pretty sturdy and well built.... Then I demoed the side car, oh my goodness, it's (and the PS) built like a tank, could take a bomb hit... Impressions, The EQ is smooth, really really smooth. Very smooth. The mic pre was big, wasn't too forward or aggressive yet it didn't have any real haze over it, very clear with a smooth top end and full bottom but not dark at all. The limiter, even though I was impressed, it didn't do anything special for me. Didn't rub me wrong, I just didn't get to know it as quick.

| The Inward Connections TCL-2 (I think that is the number of their stereo box) is a pretty sweet limiter. I don't know if it is the same as the one in the side car, however. It started as the Vac Rac limiter, but is now being made in a stand-alone box. What I like about it is the transparency and quick response. It sounds mildly "tubey" in the fact that it is pretty warm sounding, but not bloated. On instruments like brass instruments and bass (directs especially), it is great as well as for vocal use. The design is such that the first transient gets through and then it clamps down pretty quickly. That way your ear hears the first trans for attack, etc... but you can get 10dB or more of limiting with great results. --Ben |

I gotta agree with you. I own a TCL-2 and its great for mixing lead vocals and backgrounds. Its transparency when you have to really clamp down on it is its benefit in these cases. It actually sounds the coolest when all the knobs are at the extremes. The summing box is excellent also. The actual circuit used for summing is a John Hall design(same as in some API consoles and Neve). It has a really smooth sound. | |
