Alternative to Digi 192 I/O box Could anybody advise me as to the the best way to come out of pro tools into an analog console. At the moment I've got two Digidesign 192 I/O boxes totalling 24 analog outs. I'm wondering is there any other options because I intend building up my outputs to 48. Thanks Daire

If you're not planning on running on at higher sample rates, you could hook up some 888/24s on the legacy ports. A 192 legacy port can support 2 8 chanel legacy devices. You could easily add 3 888s for a bit over 3 grand have 48 outs. Like I said though, this is not a good option if you have sessions that are in the higher sample rate realm.

| If you're wanting to expand, I think I would try and add at least add one Rosetta 800, as it could be useful for other conversion (such as SRC to 2-track after mixdown) duties... There HD card comes out spring...it seems good for the money as well. I think you can get into the package for less than 1 192i/o So if you got another 192i/o and additional DA, with the Rosetta, you got 48 out 32 in. This gives you some flexibility in not using up the 16i/o bandwidth of the 192 devices, so you can still have some active inputs. I think it's probably the cheapest route for both world class conversion and flexibility

http://www.sydec.be/ Soundscape is back, regrouped from the Wackie fiasco and apparently about to release a new product line to make us all drool, if you are familiar with SS then you know, they may damn well do it too, hey the new chickypoo on the frontpage of their website makes it worth a peek Sorry I missed the pro tools part, I'm a little confused today, still worth a look though

Adat bridge? Hey Daire, Ruairi here in killarney, I rented the API off of you a while back. If you are working at 44.1/48kHz you could pick up a few cheap Adat Bridge 24s on Ebay. These would attach to the legacy port on each of your 192s giving you 16 extra Adat outs on each interface. You could hook these up to whatever D/A converter you like- Apogee DA16, RME, Fostex etc. This certainly would seem cheaper than more 192 i/o. No experience myself of the 888 but word generally is that they are poor. Off course Digi have a new 96 interface too. BTW did you ever sell your Control 24? I thought a little about getting one a while back but it just seems too much dough for 24 faders, hope you are well, Ruairi

Thanks for all your replies. I've decided to go with the 192 I/O as most of my work is now at 88.2k. Also, I know that no two DAs have exactly the same delay at the output...small I know but still, that's one of the reasons I'm going back to mixing on a console. Cheers, DW
