| EMI Curvebender I recently picked up an incredible piece of gear - called an EMI Curvebender - it is a 3 band stereo eq - late 60's or early 70's is my guess - the left/right knobs physically lock together and move together unless you take the right channel and pull the knob out until it clicks and then they operate individually. This eq sounds better than anything I have ever heard - it uses Telefunken V72a's and V74's on the inputs and outputs - the controls are frequency select, width select, and cut and boost +/-12 db. The nomenclature is very similar to our EMI mastering eq's - the choices are "low end, blunt, med blunt, medium, med sharp, and sharp" or something very close to that. If anyone knows anything about the history of this piece please let me know. This thing makes our Pultecs sound cheap. It is a 3 band unit and the bands are called "Low End, Treble, and High End". I think I have my new stereo buss eq. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. John

| Sorry for the eh...hugeness of the pics but the only ones i could find. Extremely rare ‘Curvebender’ dual/stereo tube mastering equaliser. Large rack mount unit from the 1960’s with HUGE knobs in superb condition. External rack with 4 x Telefunken V72 tube line amps for gain make-up. One of only a handful left in existence. Stunning sound and appearance. Truly the Fairchild 670 of tube equalisers, and all this for the cost of a pair of Pultecs     |

| THAT'S what they called a "UTC" or universal tone control when I visited the studio in the late '60s. The ones I saw had much stranger looking knobs though. I've been wondering about it ever since! |
