| beyer m260dx mod I have a old (from the 70,s) beyer m260 that has a blown ribon. Anyone using the moded version By Steve Sank with rca ribon? Is It worth Moding or staying stock, hows his work compared to sending back to Beyer.

| Lives for gear | FWIW, 'Tho it's not a 260, the blown 160 here was re-ribboned by Sank with the DX mod: we have another stock 160 to compare it to. I'd say the DX modded one'll see more use. There is a noticeable top boost, and a more extended bottom - sort of happy faced, much as i would expect the R84 to sound (haven't heard it yet, tho a buddy just got one in! As far as the 260, Sank himself said that particular mic (not the 160, or 500) sounds more like the (RCA) DX than the original. Also, the 260 costs less ($125 instead of $225, cos of the single ribbon tho don't quote me - it's in the ballpark!) to mod, so really, it's a no brainer, unless you are enamoured with the sound of the stock ribbon. IMO, the mod is worth it, even at double the price - lucky you have a 260 - I want one (blown) to have it modded ![]()

| i had an old blown 260 , stephen was really nice, did the work fast and also cleaned the old mic, transporting the mic to and from new-mexico to germany was no problam. the mic sounds great and is now my fav on clean guitar amp,i still like the stock m160 i have on things like oh and nylon strings guitar but the 260dx has by far more color in a good way+ it's an amzing vocal mic if you have someone like chat baker or johnny cash around... |

| Mr. Sank modded my 260 as well. Sounds great, fast work and inexpensive.

Sank was way cheaper then Beyer. Which one is better? YMMV.
