love my unit....
the mixer pack,, have a dn780 on the 2trk return so i can mix some reverb or may swap it out for one of my filters ..i also run my lex 91 & 92 out to two channels or mix them with the sounds to different channels if i work it mono - all via 2 lynx cards - and then parallel compress with to boot ( which for me is the icing on the cake ).. i really love the sound as i work in the box as well and hear a huge difference & musical addition that I cant achieve with plugs alone
that is not to say plugs are not good these days but for me this way of mixing i can make house or tek etc very quickly and efficiently and get a fat warm and yet still a punchy- deep sound it is hard to quantify and it is old tek now but it earns it's keep here and wont being sold off for uad cards any time soon

How do you fellows find the fader pack stands up? They certainly are not conductive plastic faders at that price. So you have to clean them ever?
fader pack really nice very smooth and robust plus gives u functionality ..makes mixing a pleasure

I see but are the fader knobs white or silver when they come from the manufacturer? cause I've seen different ones in different pics...

They're white. At least mine are.

Had mine since 2006 without any issues other than a scratchy master pot.....not much in it to go wrong really.
I use the 8816 with a Neve 5432 and it works really well for me...... two nice flavors with masses of headroom and both have a really low noise floor.
My wish list for the 8816 would be a pot upgrade and some balanced monitor outs..... also missed being able to drive the channel input while lowering the fader level (I don't have the fader pack but I'm not sure you can do this even if you do). Now I have the 5432 I can add a bit of channel/eq drive if need be.

It's got balanced monitor outputs but you need to use the dsub output not the tele jacks on the back.

Yeah, I know but these are hard wired to my Orpheus inputs 1&2. All the monitor outs are unbalanced which is a bit rubbish really, there is enough panel real estate to have used XLR's.

Unless I'm missing something you have Balanced Left & Right Main Mix Outputs to connect to the Orpheus and an additional 2 x Balanced Monitor Outputs through the D Sub Connector.

In the 8816 Manual on page 33 you will find the information needed to configure ample balanced outputs without compromise.

Connector 5 - Balanced Main Outputs

Main Mix Left Output
Main Mix Right Output
Monitor Main Speaker Left Output
Monitor Main Speaker Right Output
Monitor Alternate Speaker Left Output
Monitor Alternate Speaker Right Output
Cue Left Output
Cue Right Output

Its a great unit and works well for me.

To me this doesn't make any sense. If you should hardwire anything to input 1-2 it ought to be main mix out, not main or alt speaker out. Check the manual or post above.
The only gripe I have about the connections on 8816 is the fact that If you use dsubs to your patchbay you get the R channel on the left and vice versa. So have to switch these manually which is mildly annoying to say the least.

Fantastic! I had no idea there were more balanced out on that Dsub as my tech made up the leads years ago when I first got the unit. I'll get soldering tomorrow!

I always thought that Dsub only carried a balanced mix output, turns out there are other balanced outputs and I'm over the moon about it. This wasn't an issue when I first bought the unit as I only had a single pair of monitors....a few years of sluttyness and I'm using ns10,expose and M2's... plus a crappy technics stack system and a 'nice hifi.....phew!

Cheers for the info guys.
