Oh the Gremlins in the gear - they don't make them as good as in the 50's....
Make sure we get some NOS Gremlins, pre CBS, with the poison fangs! Did you see these new ROHS-conform Gremlins? Awful.

Albert,

Progress looks great. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

I'm curious about the transformers. On your website, the Solution s2 it shows 4 similar transformers which have that black rubbery covering. I see two with it and two without in the picture of my unit. Can you explain the differences? Thanks.

thumbsup Josh, how I specified readiness of device is ~90% I.e device in stage of end tests, and we try several variants of trafo for excellent result. Therefore, these 2 trafo not covered/screwed to PCB still(rubbery covering+electrostatic shields, naturally). We shall place pics of full ready and packed device tomorrow, before sending device to you.

Paul, you seem to be the big HCL owner in the Netherlands
You willing to share your experiences with their equipment with the rest of us?

I am realy sorry but I can't start doing this.
Although I am enthousiast about their products I do own other gear that is worth it too.
The reason why I started this thead was to make a statement that small " a bit unknown " manufacturers do make gear that can compete with the settled bigger trade marks.
But everybody has it's own experiences and if they all would write here it will a little bit to busy don't you think so. ( by the way there are a few users that has been given their comments yet )
The best thing you can do is to mail with Albert.
He has got the real expertise and can give better technical comments about the product then me as a user.
I agree this ain't no grand cafe, so for that we go to Frankfurt next month.
I would say ( without getting payed for this next words ) just buy it and I am sure you will be just as satisfied as me.

Well, you don't have to worry you'll put the big companies out of bussiness if you state here that you love it
I just thought I'd want to hear it firsthand from a fellow dutchman.
Do I just go for it or should I give that studio of yours a visit

I all fairness, I'm not going to compare this to much more expensive stuff.
But if the quality is anything like some people say it is...
There's not much in this price range that is hand built and has lot's of copper, tubes and other goodies in it.
It's mostly prefab surface mounted (not that that's a bad thing, but I'm after a sound here).

If anyone else wants to chime in on their experience with any of the HCL units, please do.
I don't want to hear if it's better than X brand preamp/compressor etc.

I am happy to report that I pulled the trigger on the Faust. It's in the works. Albert says should be completed soon. I will report back once I receive it and get a chance to record something with it.

I've been wanting to hear reports about this mic for a long time. That would be great if you could report back with your impressions of it.

looking at the pics HCL posted it seems they are not using that miniature tube any longer.

What tube is in the Faust in those pics above?

According to Albert it's a 6s3p. That's what he prefers at the moment sound-wise and I trust his ears.

Well, next update of Azzzy & Shauli mic manufacturing

Ye, we install 6S3P now (usual form factor). Though minitubes and nuvistors are excellent as well. We argue about it inside of our team many years already. Now count in profit of the 6S3P

Just spent a few minutes with my Solution s2 playin an old Fender PJ bass with flatwounds. This baby is sweet. The words smooth and punch come to mind. Not punch smack like a 160x but more of a poppy round punch.

So far, I prefer hard knee for the bass. Ratio/Peak/Gain all set to 12 o clock yielded a really big sound. Even at lower ratio/peak settings, the unit imparts a delicate amount of color that really does something good to the sound. I'll prolly be running all my bass tracks through this from now on. Vocals up next, soon.

Awesome work, Albert!

Interesting, upload here. Try check a drums (or drum machine,VST also),and for buss or mix. Some customers transfer mix without compression even, for warming only. It should add fatness, "pump" also.
