Need the opinion om EAR 825Q Dear Members, It's my first post on this great forum. First of all, I hope everyone in this forum have a enjoyable and profittable year. I 'd like to ask you the opinion on the EAR 825 EQ. Though, I have a plan to buy an analog EQ for my second mastering EQ, specifically Massive Passive, I happen to have a chance to make a really nice deal with EAR EQ in here, Korea. I heard so many good things on EAR 660, but not any (good or bad either) on the EQ stuff. What I only know on this is Greg Calbi uses 822Q and it is based on pultec EQ like Massive passive. If there is anyone who has an experience on EAR EQ, Please tell me your opnion on it. Is the EAR EQ similar to Massive Passive? (or better for sweetening I hope?) Can it make a some punch as pultec or api do? Thanks in advance, From Far East, SangWook Nam Soundmirror, Korea

Hi, I own a Massive Passive EQ and about a year ago i had chance to audition the Fairman EQ and the EAR. Of the 3 my favorite was; 1)The Fairman- Incredible sounding and incredible versatilty. My favorite tube EQ. My partner ended up buying it for his mastering place. Lucky Bastard!! 2) The Massive Passive- I am so used to this EQ by now that its like part of my family. When mixing vocals, it always starts here, from the MP to some destination. I wouldn't use it alone on the 2 buss in a mastering situation though(not crazy about it in the highs), but it does some cool things in the lows and low mids(shelf mode). If you get one, get the mastering version(I've used the one at S. Hull's Hit Factory suite and it was tres cool). 3) The EAR EQ- Clean and smooth sounding with a tinge of the Pultec thing. It did the Pultec thing better than the MP, but to me it just wasn't as versatile. It was very hifi sounding(excellent in the highs) and if i didn't have to send it back i would have easily kept it(I know so would have everybody else). On the Pultec thing(I also have a Pultec EQP1A), there is still nothing to me that replaces the real thing. Sure its expensive and its old, but hey if you like it and you need that sound than you pay for it. Hey its the GEARSLUT way!! ![]()

Dear thethrillfactor, Thanks for your great reply. I really hope that I have all those gears you mentioned as other gearsluts do. I'll post my feeling on 825Q as soon as I get used to it. Cheers, Wook.
