Old tape???

Hey guys, hope everyone had a good holiday. For X-mas I got an old reel of 1/4" tape from my Grandma and was currious of the proper way to "bake" tape in an oven ( what temp., duration, etc.)

You might not need to bake it. Lots of the older consumer oriented stuff is fine. I recently transfered a bunch of family stuff from the fifties, and the tape was in great shape.

It's mostly some of the high-performance tapes of the late seventies and early eighties that have problems.

Especially tape that's not back coated. Put it up and see if it'll play without that godawfull squealing shriek that makes me want to kill... but I digress.
