Which Preamps for the Sony C800G ?

Hello all,

My name is Teo from France and this is my first post.

Here's a link of my studio called Infernale Machine Research Center : http://www.tgos.fr/imrc.html

I'm a huge fan of vintage effects but my first question regards voices preamps.

I use for voices the Sony C800G microphone and I'm looking for the best preamp or channel strip for it.

In fact the sony c800 G is a very neutral microphone and to record male voice I'm interested by a colored sound.

Give me your advice ... Thanks

I usually use something with a Neve type character. Things like the BAE 1073's, Aurora Audio GTQ2, etc..

As Tony said, you can't go wrong with Neve. 1084, 1073, even a 1272 or 3405 based pre-amp.

Thanks for your prompt replies ... I have a neve 33135 but I am sure that a 1073 will be better. What do you think about the millenia TD-1 ?

I would never think of the sony as neutral ...its pretty coloured in my book but maybe not in a way you like ...

IMO what that mic is missing is midrange. I wouldn't go through a Neve or API since they tend to be scooped anyways...I'd go with a GML or a tube pre (like the requisite PAL+) or even the newer SSL designs...pick a pre to compensate what the mic is lacking

Also the millennia you mentioned will give you a scooped kinda sound ...
