weird request - utah contractors

hi folks
quick request - does anybody have any good recommendations for a musicians/orchestral contractor in Utah, especially one dealing with more classical musicians...specifically acoustic gtr and string quartet. Have to help arrange something for mid january, money not an issue (would be paid at top rate) and it's a very high profile gig. Popped it in high end because looking for seriously good players. If it were london it'd be easy, a quick call to Isobel Griffiths Ltd. but don't know the lie of the land on this sort of thing out here. Event is in Park City, during Sundance. PM if you like!

cheers
stephen

ps a crate of fine beer to a good lead. Really.

Maybe you should call the Utah Symphony.
A call to the Concertmaster might be a good plkace to start.

I would contact Klay Anderson, http://www.klay.com/. He is in SLC and should be able to help you.

I used to live in SLC and am happy to help you track things down, including good restaurants and bars (which Utahans lovingly refer to as private clubs for members).

Try:
Merie Campbell
Or Ted Hinckley

PM me for the numbers

Both of them contract all my scoring sessions and know all the GOOD players in town. I doubt the Utah Symphony will be much help unless it is a Symphony gig. They aren't really a group to help people outside of their performances. Don't bother calling Klay Anderson. He is so far out of the loop that he won't be much help. What ever you do DO NOT call the local union to find a contractor. Every show that comes through town calls the union to get a string group put together and the Salt Lake Symphony is the worst string group I have every heard. Barely better than a Junior High orchestra.

Good luck with the gig and let me know if I can help you further.

Michael's suggestion of good contractor names is probably the best way to go.

Just for insight into to symphony world:
If you call a symphony player that you know is good and has integrity, you will invariably get a name to someone you can trust to put the froup together.
remember the big symphonies have a lot of freelancers come through and they generally have high standards (I an NOT talking about quasi grups that are per service, I mean orchestras that pay $50k a year and up)

We are always happy to hook colleagues up with good paying gigs, but make sure you don't call the deadwood (we all have deadwood)

With the possible exception of LA, I would never call the union for players as unions worldwide never giva a rats a.. about quality.

Kindest
Kjetil

add these guys to your list if you need a great sting quartet. i am a little iffy about putting a ph# up for these guys but if you want to get ahold of them check here:

http://www.frystreetquartet.com/

ive done two albums with them and they are fantastic to work with and lack an ego.

This is one of the best quartets in the world and the just happen to be in residence at Utah State Universtiy at the momment.

Fry is a good suggestion.
I went to school with both the first violinist Will and the cellist Anne and can vouch for them as being first class players.
