Lexicon 960L or TC System 6000?

Lexicon 960L or TC System 6000? Looking for opinions. Going to check both out end of next week. Was told I would be impressed by TC 6000 reverb but TC reverbs have always seemed thinner to me than the Lexicon 480L ( I attribute alot of the 480L's sound to the 18 bit "dirty" converters though). Cancelled out the 480L for new room- wanna get something that is still being updated & supported.

Let your ears decide for you, but I think the 6k is the box to beat. Not only do you get superb reverbs, but you also get a box that can run all kinds of algorithms, from EQ to compression or even a 5.1 surround monitor controller...

TC 6000 has cool unwrap for mono or stereo to 5.1 if you nned it ... reverbs are nice and so are mastering functions ... both are expensive boxes with all the software loaded ...

demoed Lexi and could not get it to boot up so i cannot comment on it ...

have fun listening, please post results ...

peace john

If you like 480L why not like me, get both ? both for the price of 960L (Buy New TC6K and used 480L) .
Many users who sold their 480L for 960L upgrade are now hunting for 480L to buy back again, they said they missed 480 sound.
I for one did a comparison, after many sleepless night, I went for TC6000 and patiencely waiting for good deal on 480L, finally, I got 1 480L version 4 for 5K in MINT condition, well, that's only a reasonable price

IMNTLBFHO, the Kurzweil KSP-8 buries the Mexicon 960L... just buries it. The plates, the chambers... just way more opulent and real to my ears... the other FX, especially the Leslie type "rotor" programs have become damn near indispensible for my work.

I haven't tried the t.c. unit... but I have played with the 960... I just preferred the sonics of the KSP-8 so much more it wasn't even funny [which is how we ended up carrying Kurzweil... I mean really... what else would a keyboard company's product be doing at a 'pro-audio' shop?]

Best of luck with your search.

I have both and I love both ...

I've grown into 'habbits' when using them. Whenever I need a very natural sounding hall, I don't even bother looking in the 960 anymore for example. Acoustic guitars allways get the 6000. Drums usually too, although there's some great sounding rooms in the 960 for that too.

On the other side I'll rarely go look for something to put on vocals in the TC. One of the biggest things with the lexicon is that you can put an enormous amount of effect on for example a lead vocal and still keep it right in your face.

In general I would say, if you're intop pop / rock / RnB / modern stuff .... 960 is the way to go .... for classical recordings / post production / film / mastering ... the 6000 is a no brainer.

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to work with a KSP-8 yet ... but according to what everybody says it should be a great unit too. As for it burying the 960 I do find that an interesting approach ... maybe I should try it out some time.

I agree,
Ive been using the 960 for a month or so,and i like it on vocals.
Im not a big reverb fan, and dont use it on 90% of what I do, but its perfect for these oldies shows Ive been doing.
the producer loves reverb, I mean lots of reverb. And as Chris mentioned, it doesnt get cloudy.

take care
