guitar rigs, do ohms effect sound?

dam near everytime i get to track gtrz the player asks me what ohms to run everything at and what one sounds better ect..

so i am wanting to be able to help out and learn at the same time so why would you choose to run lets say a 5150 at 4, 8, or 16 ohms? are there sonic differences?

Yes, that is odd.I have noticed that some cabs have different ratings.4,8,once i seen 16 ohm.The amp will be stamped with the ohm rating its sending go by that. Its not a tone choice at all

ok so its not a tone choice, than if you have a head that will do 4,8,and 16 and a cab that will do the same how do you go about deciding what ohms to run? it is a vol vs how hard the tubes are working thing? in other words why would you choose 16 over 8?

generally, you will lose a certain ammount of high end when going from low impedence to high impedence, but it is safe.
there could be some damage done when going from high to low.

It is, of course, amp dependent. 16 ohms for the big, crunchy rock thing (4x12).

The sound of an AC-30, is an open back 2x12, celestion blues run in series at 16 ohms.

A matchless DC30 is also an open back 2x12, but with mismatched (8 ohm) speakers run in parallel at 4 ohms.

Generally speaking, the amp should be set to the same ohmage as the cab.

The obvious answer is you chose whatever you think sounds the best. But for the sake of argument, Assuming I had unlimited options:

4x12 @ 16ohms 99.999% of the time. (four 16 ohm speakers run in series-parallel)

2x12 @ 4 ohms, Fender or Matchless sounds (two 8 ohm speakers run in parallel)

2x12 @ 8ohms, kinda like half a 4x12 (two 16 ohm speakers run in parallel)

2x12 @ 16 ohms, for Vox (two 8 ohm speakers run in series)

1x12 @ 8 ohms

Sonically speaking, I try to get to 4 ohms as often as possible. That's my sound.
