Possible moding of an SSL 4000G computer

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone out there has tried, or heard of someone switching out the mondo floppy drives on an SSL 4000G for a more modern storage medium? I know that SSL makes some things, but I frankly don't have the funds.

I am (actually) qualified to make the hardware changes, and if I were a better programmer I would make a BSD distro to interface with some real hard drives. I could just pull out the schematics, but I was hoping that the road would be, if not fully paved, at least created.

Thanks

These guys sell a zip drive, but they are quite pricey. Let me know if you find out other options.

You can put a 3.5" floppy in it. It's not a hard drive, but better than those damn 5.25" drives.
