Guitar store robbed - watch out for hot high end guitars

Dozens of guitars stolen over Christmas holiday | ksl.com

Guitar Store - owned and operated by awesome people was just robbed in Salt Lake City. See article above. Watch out for "hot" expensive acoustic instruments. Let's catch these people. This is a terrible thing.

Apparently on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. This is like stealing BIBLES IMHO ! ! !

THANKS,
AB

Awful to hear and a familiar story to read. As a former music retailer / store owner; one thing that always seems to be lacking, especially in small retail stores is a competent security system. It always amazed me, even with unique and serialized high end instruments they can still manage to disappear for extended periods of time. I wish the owner(s) good luck, I've been there before and feel their pain.

This is sad. I hope the guitars are recovered.

Yes. Is there a national website for serial numbers that people can post? We need one for all things musical - instruments, pro gear, etc. My 2 cents. If there are too many websites and not a main one, then everyone will not be able to check serial number efficiently. Though I suppose these thieves might do something to the serial numbers?

Big sigh. As if anyone needs that around xmas time.

Here in the UK a bunch of guys stole some toys from a children's ward? I think they were terminally ill, too. Who does that?!

+1 to finding these scum.

That sucks. When I was younger a store I worked in got robbed. This was just as the internet was getting popular, maybe 1995 or 96.

The stuff that got stolen was all limited run Fender CS guitars (a Playboy and a Harley Davidson and maybe some others). I remember talking with the owner of the store and we agreed that the thefts were by a customer or someone who had been in the store and would probably end up in someone's collection and not some random job.

Sadly, in cases like these it's usually people who want the stuff, not druggies or the types who will steal a TV set or laptop.

I hope they get them back.

This does suck. Brian's a cool guy. Only met him a couple of times and bought a guitar from him. Utah's got a pretty tight music community, especially among the acoustic players. Someone will find out.

You should post a list of instruments and serial numbers in this thread.

I will see if I can get a list. Meanwhile, be wary of expensive guitars - Martins, Taylors, Collings, etc. - also if they do not have the matching cases!
