ESP electric acoustics

Am only the look out for an acoustic. Tried a Fender Kingman SCE, two of them in fact and they both had the some defect in the bridge which made an annoying buzzing sound. Took the strings off and spent a good hour trying to find the source, couldn't find it - think it's something within the bridge assembly. Shame, is a nice guitar otherwise.

Anyway, my search has led me to the ESP guitars. Playability is important to me as I play a lot of complex chords all over the neck which are impossible to play on most acoustics. There doesn't seem to be much info on the net about them, can only presume they are relatively new models. The exotic wood range looks nice too and the only difference to the AC30 range is that they don't have a presence knob in the preamp.

Any feedback much appreciated.

Sod it, ordered the quilted ash body version ESP LTD XTONE EW-QA NG (Natural Gloss, Quilted Ash)

Think it looks a bit pukey but ash is my favourite sounding wood.

That looks an awful lot like my Ibanez AES10EAM1201. Could have been made in the same factory. I liked it quite a bit when I first got it but now, compared to other guitars with more conventional tonewoods in the top (spruce or mahogany) it sounds a bit plasticky.

Ash is a good tonewood for solid body electrics, not so much for acoustics. It is a hardwood, and hence does not resonate as well as a softwood like spruce, which is the wood most frequently used in quality steel string acoustic guitars, with mahogany being common is less expensive models.

Hm. I find the harder woods can make the sound too dark but it also depends a lot on the age of the wood. Also it's about the attack for me, darker woods have a very linear attack and aren't very percussive. Maple is sometimes too percussive which can result in a boomy type effect. Ash is a bit harder and has more warmth than maple but it still has that percussive attack and open sounding top end. Anyhow, will let you know what I think of it.
