Dimarzio's or something else?

I have a cheap electric guitar (a copy) that plays remarkably well and looks absolutely fabulous. I would like to upgrade the stock HB pickups. I am considering Dimarzio vintage PAF equivalents.

I have an Amer Std Strat with original equipment for my clean sweet parts and parts that call for real character and I have a Les Paul Classic with the ridiculously hot ceramic pickups for the heavy, dirty parts so I was leaning toward something in between. Will the PAF's fill the bill??? Is there something else I should consider?

Any thoughts.

Loads of great pickups out there.
Dimarzio are fine but personally I'd get something from one of the 'boutique' makers, Bareknuckle, Fralin, Lollar, etc. You can usually contact them by phone or email and get advice as to which model is best for you (something lacking from larger companies).
The extra cost isn't wasted IMO, you might outgrow your cheap guitar but you can always put the pickup in your next axe.

love the mojotone custom classics in my ES345. superb! however, with pickups, what may sound great in one instrument might be a dog in another

dimarzios are a solid choice. They have an exchange policy too, so if you put a paf in & find you want a little more beef or a little more chime you can switch it out for a different model.

I would start there (seymour duncan are also great) before getting into super boutique. I think you have to really know what you want before going that route.
