Bass PIckups

Hi Looking for some replacement pickups for my 71 P bass. I'd like to stay passive and vintagy, maybe just a little less midrange. Whats cool, antiquities? Lollar, Voodoo? You tell me, I buy!

I've been through a few P pickups (Bart, Fender CS, Seymour, EMG, etc), and I was never blown away until I tried a Dimarzio Model P.

It definitely has a mid-scoop to the sound. Medium output with tons of grind. Sounds great through just about any amp I play it through.

It's definitely hotter than a true vintage p/u, but not modern sounding. Imagine a vintage P sound on steroids.

And they're less than seventy bucks.

WHy would you want to replace the original pickup in a 71? The only thing a pickup change does is lower its resale value. Yes, I know a pickup change can be changed back with no problem, but the longer the pickups sit around, the more chance you have of ruining or losing them.

If you absolutely positively have to change it, though, don't waste your money on these boutique "vintage" pickups. I agree with the previous poster...Model P.
